Dr. Tanushree Basak is the Head - Department of Physics at Indus University. She brings with her a vast experience of six years in research and more than five years of teaching experience. What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Work together, grow together”

Being the HOD of the Physics Department, my leadership philosophy would be ‘Work together & grow together.’ I would instead like to work as a team member than the leader of the team. As a team, we can achieve a goal in a better manner. As a team leader, my foremost responsibility will be to motivate and encourage my teammates to excel in academia and research careers. I want to create a well-disciplined, healthy, and supportive work environment in my department.

How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

“We make sure to plan and strategize before taking any decision”

Being the HOD of Physics Department, I would like to strategize the marketing plan for the key programs like M.Sc (Physics) and B.Sc (Physics) in the following way,

  • Organizing Inter-college events like Science fest
  • Out-reach programs for 12th standard science students
  • Time-to-time announcement of key programs through social media and local news papers
  • Sending marketing team to science colleges all-over Gujarat and outside for student awareness and collection of prospective students data
  • Organizing webinars/seminars on popular science topics

Of course, I believe that the marketing team of Indus University will play a vital role in realizing the plans in the future. Regarding the administrative part, I would ensure discipline and regular attendance of the students.

How does the curriculum of Your department ensure the best practice of industry?

“We update our curriculum based on the requirement and need”

The physics department curriculums for undergraduate and postgraduate courses are updated as per the syllabus requirement for all-India level entrance examinations. The diverse curriculum of B.Sc. & M.Sc. Physics offered by the Physics department, IISHLS, imparts domain-specific knowledge and equips students with problem-solving and analytical skills. We ensure the best practice through the following means,

  • Regular internal assessment based on class tests, assignments and online/offline quiz
  • Experimental demonstration and hands on experience
  • Project based learning
  • Focusing on the development of slow learners

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Students should focus on building a strong educational foundation”

Basic sciences are the foundation stone of any technological development. Therefore, I would like to encourage the aspiring young generation to take up basic science as their career option to excel in research & innovations. There are many employment opportunities in Industry and the Academia & Research field for Physics graduates and postgraduates.
