Dr. Umang Patdiwala is the Assistant Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department at Indus University, Gujarat. He has been a part of the educational sector for twenty years and has been associated with this institute for four years. During his profession, he accomplished numerous achievements to be a mentor and an idle for the students across the Nation.


What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

The innovations and opportunities to learn at every stage. Continuous up-gradation of technical skills and knowledge. Seeking the overall growth and development of students.


What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Teamwork and collective leadership for better decision making of the institute”

Believe in teamwork. Being ahead of the department I consider teamwork as the most crucial part of leadership. All the decisions should be made with a discussion of all the members of the institute. Students should be involved in every kind of activity-based learning.

How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

“Several activity-based activities and marketing strategies under institute premises”

Marketing can be done through various technical and non-technical programs with students, parents, off-campus academicians, industry persons, and govt. /funding agency. We organized International Conference “InDACON” in Feb. 2020 at our campus. We also organize school level activities to attract school children on campus. 


How does the curriculum of your department ensure the best practice of the industry?

“We follow the premise of Practice meets theory”

In almost all the subjects we have practical sessions and dept. incorporates latest technology like Robotics, NC-CNC machining, e-Yantra Lab., Drone technology, 3D modeling Software, Green building concepts, Hybrid technology for IC Engines, Solar and alternate energy, waste management, etc. We do have an Industry representative in dept. Board of Studies for Structuring and up-gradation of Syllabus every year. 


When you first came to Indus University, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved, and how far along in implementing that vision is you?

“Evolution is perpetual and that strengthens the vision of quality education”

Yes at the time of joining I had a keen interest in moving towards the research area collectively with department faculty members. Department is also moving towards consultancy works with industry collaboration. We have also organized an International Conference in February 2020. We have received a research fund/grant of Rs. 2.5 lakhs for students’ Robotics competition “Robofest”. Department is further looking upscale more research collaboration with Industry and govt. agency.
