Dr. Bala Prabhakar is a Dean of the SPPSPTM. He did his Post Graduation in Pharmacy from Andhra University and PhD from SNDT University. Moreover, she has 37 years of teaching experience. She has also experience in the administration sector for 20 years.

What keeps you connected with the Education Sector?

“Liberty of setting up the pharmacy school and framing policies”

I see students with vibrant enthusiasm every year. and an innovative mind. They are talented and need proper mentoring. Our graduates leave the institute to make a meaningful impact on the pharmaceutical profession. The pharmaceutical field is witnessing newer advances each day. The education sector is undergoing a shift with digitalization and NEP 2020. I have been associated with the institute since its inception and witnessed growth by leaps and bounds. We had the liberty of setting up the pharmacy school and framing policies. Our institute carved a niche for itself for one of the best pharmacy schools in the country. Moreover, alumni are making a mark globally. The campus consists of dedicated faculty and staff who work as a team in a coordinated manner.


What are your roles and responsibilities?

“Provide guidance and necessary sources for pupils”

I have been involved in student needs, providing necessary resources and guidance to achieve goals. Young minds are enthusiastic to innovate. We provide numerous opportunities to students to learn, develop and groom into competent professionals. All the activities in our institute are student-centric. We focus on the mental well-being of candidates along with academic progress. Moreover, we interact with parents to understand the problems of students. We enable a smooth transition from academic life to the corporate world. I am accessible to students for resolving their concerns. 


How do you strategize programs and plans for an administration on campus?

“Implement new courses for the progress of students”

The pharma field is currently emerging in college. We work towards the introduction of new programs to address the gaps in curriculum based on feedback from industry experts. Integrated programs run by USP are B.Pharm+MBA and M.Pharm+MBA combining pharma and management components. It is in line with the vision of NEP 2020. We also have core pharmacy programs of B.Pharm, M.Pharm, and Ph.D. Our University has a marketing department. Moreover, our students become brand ambassadors. The perception of our stakeholders including our employers, alumni, and their families. It helps us attract young talent for programs. 


What programs do you raise for students to face real-world challenges?

“Debates, essay writing, extracurricular activities, and technology fests are available for pupils”

An extracurricular committee on campus organizes events related to sports, debates, essay writing, critical thinking, and problem-solving competitions. The Urjja festival is a mix of co-curricular and extracurricular activities for students. We encourage students to participate in quizzes, and technology fests conducted in colleges across the country. The Innovation Council conducts talks wherein students interact with entrepreneurs and innovators. The alumni mentor our students for their future career or higher education prospects. Mock interviews are conducted for students that help to face real-world scenarios. 


How does the curriculum of SPPSPTM ensure a better future for students?

“Syllabus update, feedback from subject experts, and industry reactions helpful for pupils”

Our curriculum is revisited at regular intervals. It ensures the current developments in the field. Feedback from subject experts across the industry is considered in the syllabus update. Theoretical concepts and practical application taught for students. Regular interactions with the industry provide real-time knowledge in the curriculum. Technical writing activity helps the students sharpen their writing skills. They learn to search literature on a topic and give their perspective.

How do you bring a practical approach to subjects and industry?

“Provide software workshops and training to students”

We believe in providing students an experience in technologies/software through workshops. They operate all the equipment by the end of their program. The mode of teaching links with an application of concepts that solve real-world problems. Our students undergo industrial and management component training to experience real-world scenarios. Technical training in the industry provides B.Pharm students to know about pharma companies. They get a practice school component and a research project gives them hands-on technical experience.


How do you help students to cope up with the competition in the outside world?

“Provide training and skill development for students”

We train students to multitask. Our students are groomed to think independently to learn, explore and innovate. We instill the students in technical skills, communication skills, analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and practical training on software equipment. Our employers' graduates are a class apart from others. They stand out from the crowd due to the training at the institute. All our activities enable the students to manage time effectively, multitask, and provide solutions to real-life problems. 


How does the institute raise the skills of the faculty according to the industry standards?

“Faculty development programs and training available in the campus”

The institute provides training in the industry for faculty. Faculty development programs are held in industry and interact with faculty from an industry perspective. Our faculty are undergoing various certificate courses offered through SWAYAM, ARPIT, Coursera, and others. They research their field of expertise, present their research work to the fraternity, and learn about recent trends.

Our Institute lies in the top 15 pharmacy schools in the country as per NIRF ranking. The alumni are placed globally. They contribute in a massive way to the pharma field. We offer interdisciplinary education to our graduates. Interdisciplinary research funded by government and industry. The focus of the university, teachers, and administration staff is imparting valuable education to students.

One of the strengths is the integrated program offered at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It gives graduates a competitive edge over other pharmacy and plain management candidates. What are the challenges faced for higher education and SPPSPTM?

The pharmaceutical field is undergoing a paradigm shift. Older practices have discontinued the advent of digitalization. It affects drug manufacturing and distribution. The field of academics is changing with blended, flipped, and hybrid learning.

Any suggestions do you like to give to the aspiring students?

“Never stop learning and embrace upcoming trends”

I like to advise the youth to never stop learning. The pharma world is changing every day. Students will have to embrace the upcoming trends to stay relevant. One has to think out-of-the-box and work hard. It provides knowledge from different disciplines to cater to needs in healthcare.
