Dr. Palas Kumar Saha is an Assistant Professor of the History Department in the RKDF University. He did M.A in English from Netaji Subhash Open University. He has completed M.Phil and Ph.D from Visva-Bharati University and is also qualified UGC NET in History. His research area includes ancient Indian Socio-Cultural and Art history of Buddhism. He published various research articles and journals. He was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship from UGC.

What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To implement direction, express our vision, encourage students and be self-motivated”

My main duty is to get the students to come to classes regularly. Another goal is to bring the students back into the mainstream of their studies after the long two years of Covid-19. I will help students to make the capability and improve their quality of learning. We are always aware of students, ensure highest levels of quality, integrity and ethics in all research undertaken. A self-motivated and forward looking research environment available for both staff and students. I suggest all the students do historical research as a big picture examination of a person or time period. I need to implement direction, express our vision, and give power to others in order to distribute departmental plans within the faculty. We encourage students to publish articles in journals and give confidence to present research papers in various International and National seminars. 

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“Impart co curricular activities, group discussion and solve worries of students”

A teacher is a friend, philosopher and Guide. An education campus didi not grow up without the relationship between teachers and students. I implement co- curricular activities and group discussion for pupils. They can discuss any issues with faculties and it gives them relief. I will use new teaching materials and methods for students to understand subjects very well. 

What are the best practices offered by RKDF University Ranchi for students to gain necessary skills?

“Seminar, workshop, group discussion and other opportunities are provided to pupils”

Our campus gives various opportunities for pupils. They can participate in group discussion, demonstration, Seminar and workshops. We celebrate vital events like International Women Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Netaji Jayanti, etc. Students present their speeches at these events and their fear of getting on stage will go away. 

How do you strategize the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

“Take suggestions from university experts, and follow the CBCS curriculum on campus”

Curriculum structure is vital for Historical studies. I have taken many strategies to implement a curriculum for history students. We are following the CBCS curriculum now. Because, our university is located in Jharkhand and most students are from Jharkhand. I take suggestions from university experts to make a good course curriculum.

What are your views upon the placements and higher education about the RKDF University Ranchi?

“Lots of opportunities available for pupils through placements and higher degrees”

I always encourage students for higher studies and motivate them for jobs. Our department provides BA, MA, and Ph.D for students. In India, there are a lot of opportunities to get a good job through higher education. History is an important subject in the Civil service examination. So, most students take this subject. History questions will come first in all areas and it motivates all my departmental students.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition in the outside world?

“Take extra sessions for competitive exams and encourage students”

I always motivate and encourage students to attain a good job. We give training for competitive exams. Competition among the students is getting higher these days. I always take extra classes for the competitive exam with pupils. 

Do you have any extracurricular activities at RKDF University Ranchi to enhance the skills of students to face real world challenges?

“Seminar, Conference, Historical sites visit, and group discussion are provided to students”

Extracurricular activities improve all our overall outlook on university students. I will emphasize various extracurricular activities for student’s improvement. We give Project work, Seminar, Conference, Historical sites visit, and group discussion on various contemporary modern historical debates.

What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education of RKDF University Ranchi?

“Online classes in the pandemic period, new technologies in daily practices and infrastructure to improve the quality”

COVID-19 situation is too much disturbed in the education system. We admit face-to-face interaction between teachers and students. Our campus faces issues with online classes because of a lack of students. Students are not coming regularly after opening the university. We are developing student commitment to working and learning. Some other challenge includes maintaining our universities classroom environment and infrastructure to improve the education quality. It includes university services, utilities, proper administration, cleanliness, an eco-friendly environment, etc. 

What are the approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to train the students?

“Focus on class demonstrations, ancient historical sites, and archaeological studies”

Teachers need to build a classroom environment on campus. Positive interactions are rule and disciplinary consequences. I will mainly demonstrate, and students will perform any topic in front of others. We train them in archaeological study and ancient historical sites.

All kinds of facilities available on campus both economically and environmentally. One of my greatest strength is my capability to work efficiently among different people. Other strengths include students and highly experienced faculties. 

Any valuable advice do you give for students to have a prosperous career ahead?

“Expand your knowledge and be an enriched person”

Education is the backbone of society and nations. Every student needs to study carefully. A very good preparation brings all success in your life. My advice to students is to expand your knowledge and become an enriched person.
