Mrs.K.Madhanasundareswari is a HOD of the Microbiology department in the Sri Ramakrishna College Of Arts & Science For Women, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. She did B.Sc. from Nirmala College, M.Sc Applied Microbiology from PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore and M.Phil from Bharathiar University in 1993. She has 27 years of academic experience and 23 years of Research experience. She started her career as a lecturer in Microbiology, and exploring Microbiological applications. Prior to joining, she taught Microbiology for two years to students of B.Sc Nursing. She also worked as a technician in a hospital earlier. Her research interests are Bioprocess Technology, Agricultural Microbiology, Medical Mycology and Parasitology. She has guided 18 research scholars and published 13 research papers in National or International journals. She has also attended many conferences, seminars and published her Research paper held at Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

Our students are working on projects that explore the medicinal and antimicrobial properties of Indian medicinal plants. They are developing nanoparticle-based materials for medical applications, cosmetics, and industry-based applications. Other projects include use of natural or microbial-based products as coloring agents, food formulations, textile-based products, developing games based on scientific concepts, environmental pollution control and bioremediation.

What made you decide to become a teacher?

“Passion for teaching and inspiring students makes me a teacher”

I decided to be a teacher with a positive mind, and inspiring students’ lives. My passion is for the subject and getting the opportunity to infuse the interest in students. Teaching encourages me to continue learning. Students often ask questions you never thought of and I encourage them to research new findings or technologies. 


When you came to Sri Ramakrishna College Of Arts & Science For Women, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

“To produce research, discipline and quality education for all”

My vision is to produce quality education, perform research and be excellent in the campus discipline to lead the society. I am passionate about the success of students and motivated to mentor. I am always obsessed with seeing all my students reach success and motivates them for the same. Domain wise, I am self-motivated to acquire updated knowledge in the field and try to instill the same for all.
