Dr. Premlata Ambre is working as HOD and Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Maharashtra State Branch’s Bombay College of Pharmacy (IPA MSB’s BCP) for the last few 21years. She pursued her PG and doctoral education from BCP. She's passionate about teaching and likes to engage and interact with students. In her opinion, BCP students are enthusiastic, vibrant, and inquisitive to learn and practice technical knowledge. The majority of them have a great liking in research areas hence many UG students acquire higher education.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students and faculty?

“To provide students and Teachers with all necessary study material and analysis”

I’m responsible for verifying and managing day to day activities of the department. Arranging career-oriented webinars or guest lectures for benefiting the students in the department. Analysis, annual report preparation on the 360-degree feedback, and assigning the workload of faculties in the department. Arranging periodic meetings with the research scholars and faculties in the department. Submitting the research proposals for modernizing the research areas of the department, etc.


What programs are offered by your institute to help students to stand apart from the crowd?

“Providing students with Short duration Certification courses in recently emerging Topics”

Our institute offers B.Pharmacy, M.Pharmacy, Ph.D. programs, and short-duration certificate courses like Data Analytics in Healthcare and Patenting of NDDS and Specialty Products. Pharmacy is an integral part of the healthcare industry; it caters to the preparation and dispensing of medicines that are required to treat a patient. Pharmacy graduates and postgraduates can pursue their careers in pharmaceutical manufacturing, formulation development, Research, or in patenting and regulatory affairs.

How does your institute update and strategize the curriculum?

“Updation of the Syllabus by designing the strategies”

Our college is Government aided Pharmacy college, autonomous since 2019. We are following the syllabus of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) with few additional updates in the course. We have our alumni members on the Board of studies who have been involved in modifying and revising the syllabus with the help of in-house faculty members. The value-based elective subjects have been the heart of the pharmacy curriculum. The syllabus may be more or less similar in all the Pharmacy colleges but how the curriculum is delivered to the students is the USP of Bombay College of Pharmacy.


How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

“Providing Students with information like ongoing Internship Programs and Courses”

The college has signed MoUs with several industries for skill-based courses, internships, and Research. College alumni association often invites the leading alma mater on the ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ program over the weekends for sharing their Pharma experiences and career growth. We are also involving our students to participate in free online Coursera programs and Government initiated programs such as AICTE-Internshala internships.At College Students are made aware about the large variety of Career options are available like Registered pharmacist can become an entrepreneur, can work as a pharmacist in pharmacy stores, hospitals. Researchers, academicians, FDA inspectors, legal advisors, management roles in pharma industries, Astro pharmacy, nuclear pharmacy, patents or regulatory advisors, etc. In a nutshell, there is a widespread and variety of exposure offered to all the students during their college life at BCP which helps in grooming them into dynamic and vibrant professionals.


What are the projects that students are working on through this program?

“Students are working on formulation, analysis, and development of drugs”

Students are working mainly on research-based projects: formulation and development, drug analysis, quality control and quality assurance of the drugs, new drug discovery, metabolism or in-vitro/ in-vivo / toxicological studies, additionally literature-based projects are also given to UG/PG students.


How does your department prepare students for Placement?

“Providing Students with 100% Placement Assistance”

The placement options are wide open for graduate, postgraduates, and Ph.D. students in the pharma industries. Placement at BCP acts as a contact point for pharma and allied industries that wish to recruit students from BCP. The placement cell organizes Pre-placement talks for corporates who wish to visit the campus for recruitment.We prepare our students for placements by inviting alumni to deliver a series of lectures on different upcoming topics in the pharma industry. We allow our students to upgrade their soft skills by offering free online courses and webinars. To boost their confidence, we sometimes arrange mock interview sessions with the help of alumni.

What advice would you give to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

“Students should focus on the changing demands of the industries and adjust themselves according to it”

Learning is a lifelong process hence even after getting the degrees, students must be updated with the current affairs, they need to be ardent readers, hardworking, enthusiastic, and responsible citizens of India for leading a prosperous career. Students should also focus on the increasingly changing demands of industries.
