It’s better to do an MS from US as you will get better exposure compared to NICMAR. Their practical approach to studies like labs and internships will help you a lot in your career. You will get better career options after completing an MS in the US. Since the degree is valid all across the US as well as the world. You don’t need to give any other qualifying examination for working anywhere. The yearly salary for MS degree holders in the USA is around $73,900 ( ~INR 54,31,413).

While NICMAR is well-known for management studies in the field of Civil Engineering. But they offer MBA rather than M.Tech or ME degrees. Also, NICMAR is recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research organization by the Govt. of India. None of the degrees offered by the institute is AICTE approved.

According to one of my friend's personal experiences, both the options are completely different and will lead you to different tracks. It totally depends upon your risk-taking ability.

  • If you go to NICMAR you need to initially spend approximately INR 12 LPA.
  • You get a placement of around INR 4.5 – 12 LPA for domestic companies and INR 12-18 LPA for international companies that are situated basically in Southeast Asia, Africa, India or Gulf.
  • If you plan to get admission in MS, you need to spend the amount of INR 30-50 LPA.
  • If you then manage to get a job in the US then the package can range from $50,000 - $65,000 (INR 36 lakh - 47 lakh).
  • But it's somehow difficult to get a job on construction sites or even in the project management field as compared to CS, IT, and related fields.
  • So in that case you need to get back to India and search for a job that will not provide you more than 4-5 LPA, though you have an impressive profile.

Thus, we can conclude that if you are ready to take the risk of a huge amount of money then you can go for MS in the US otherwise NICMAR is also a good option.
