Course Curriculum Overview :
Personally, me being a commerce student with a vast interest in law made me choose this particular course. Choosing this course increases my options for a career in bachelor of commerce as well as in law with integrated options as well. Faculty: Student ratio in UILS is nominal with ample Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors. With 180 seats per course divided among 3 sections each, available professors are enough for the same. Faculty's qualification is Phd for professors with amazing work profiles as can be seen in their CVs provided on University's website. The teaching method is subjective with every subject. Like subjects of law are taught in a pretty well way accompanied by ample competitions like a moot court, ADRs, Judgement Writing, quizzes etc. contrary to theoretical subjects which are boring. Mid sems being objective and Final exams being subjective are conducted every semester with a moderate level of difficulty requiring a lot of content to score well.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fees of the course are to be submitted in 2 instalments. 1st Installment of Rs. 54500/- and 2nd installment of Rs. 41200/-. which is a little increased amount than the last batch fees. With the present hostel accomodation inside of campus, the cost of study declines. it is around Rs. 6000/- fees of the hostel with monthly mess and canteen charges. EWS scholarship, post-matric scholarship, and scholarship on merit are provided. Financial assistance is given to SC/ST/OBC/SEBC/Minority students through schemes like Post Matric Scholarship. University provides students with on-campus jobs with basic stipends like working as library help for certain hours.
Campus Life :
Campus life is happening in its own way. With new fests every month and elections every year, there is no time PU is not in its fun phase. UILS particularly have National cultural fest called 'DRISHYAM' and National Legal Fest 'ARGUENDO' along with that, national moot court competitions (surana and surana) or national ADR competitions (A.S Anand National Triathlon) also get organised every year very enthusiastically. Inra-department competitions in different combinations are common too. Nominal infrastructure, computer labs, moot court hall; UILS have its own library with all required journals, bare acts and books. It also provides the online library with various database subscriptions which is a major need for every law student. With National sports fest 'AKHADA' of Uils and many facilities in many sports are provided by PU. Rotaract, Legal aid club, Business and Entrepreneurship club etc are great to see here. UILS have Legal Aid Clinic to run by its own students.
Hostel Facilities :
Punjab University nearly hosts 20,000 students in 8 boys hostels and 10 girls hostels. With basic ammenities provided and 24/7 timing complimenting 24 hour library, it is a win win situation for hostelites. Hostels having parlour, tailor,AC study rooms, laundry, gyms along wih hot water facility makes it a living wonder. Infrastructure is okayish and not comparable to private colleges. But around Rs. 6000/- for one semester, it is affordable and better than living in PGs. PGs are present near and around PU. Every sector in Chandigarh s filled with available rooms. PU students prefer sector 15 or 38 side which is easier to travel from. You can get a hostel room while proceeding with the admission process and get in the list early as possible. Hostels are given as per merit. students can also get hostels on guest basis with slight higher rent. talking about the food, there is separate mess and canteen with nutritious food and demandable tastes. Personally, I don't have any issue with food.
