Brief Review of NIT Patna

Remarks :

The admission process is very simple. You have to qualify JEE Main exam. The cut-off for admission to NIT Patna is around AIR 45000 for Open candidates. The JEE Main exam is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). The fee of application for male candidates is Rs 1000, and for female candidates, it is Rs 800. The application dates are announced by NTA every year. Reservation Benefits are available for OBC-NCL, EWS, SC-ST, Females, and PwD candidates. Home state quota is also applicable for students belonging from Bihar. The process of admission is very smooth, but it would be great if physical reporting was also available online.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Mechanical engineering opens a gate for a number of opportunities that include GATE, PSUs, Indian Engineering Services, and many other government services. Students can also go for private companies. The faculty-student ratio in NIT Patna is around 1:20. There are adequate faculty members in the college. All of the professors and assistant professors have done Ph.D. from prestigious institutes around the world. Most of the faculty members have good teaching skills, but some of them are still preferring the years-old method of memorization which sometimes feels quite boring. Exams are held two times in a semester, Mid-sem and End-sem. Class tests are also taken occasionally. Passing the semester exams are very easy, But maintaing a good CGPA is not so easy.

Internships Opportunities :

Companies like Amazon, Parth, Delloite and many other provide on campus internship opportunities. Governmental companies like NTPC and ONGC also visit Our campus to provide internships. A student has to do a major project and a minor project. Students get internships mostly in 3rd and 4th year.

Placement Experience :

Placements in NIT Patna has grown significantly in the last 4 years. Highest on campus placement for 2023 was 52 lpa. Average package is around 12 lpa. Nearly 80% of the students were placed in 2023. Placements are done in the final year. Some student go for jobs while some opt for higher studies like M Tech and MBA.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Fee hike has not been seen in the last 5 years and most likely will be the same for session 2023-24. The cost of study differs according to the financial background of students. For students having a family income of more than 5 lakhs per annum, the total fee for 1 year is approximately 1,92,000 including hostel and mess. For 1-5 lakhs, it is about 1 lakh per annum and for less than 1 lakh family income, it is about 60000. Scholarships are not provided by the institute but there are many other private and govt scholarships available. Getting an internship is a good way to support yourself financially for which the students are given many opportunities.

Campus Life :

A Technical and Cultural fest is organized in the institute every year - CORONA and MILANGE at around December. An annual fest, ECCENTRICA is also organized every year around October. Apart from these, many other festivals are enjoyed by students which are organized by different clubs. The library includes all the books necessary during the course for every year, every branch. Journals and newpapers are also available in the latest editions. Most of the classrooms are smart classes with projectors, screens, and microphones. All the classes have Air Conditioning and good ventilation. Cricket, Football, Badminton, and other games are played on campus and students participate in different games in Inter-NIT sports meet. There is also a gym, music room, badminton court, and cafeteria to enjoy and chill. NSS has a branch in NIT Patna that is run by the students themselves. There are many clubs robotics, coding, entrepreneurship etc.

Hostel Facilities :

Hostel facility is pretty good. Usually 3 students are accommodated in one room in first year. Preference is given to the students residing outside of Patna. Each student is provided with one bed, fan, cupboard, table, and chair . Water facility is also pretty good. Free high-speed wifi and ethernet are also available. The food is not so good in the mess, but it's satisfactory. You will get veg and non veg both. Milk and fruits are also provided. Hostel is alloted while you take admission. There are plenty of rooms and PGs available nearby in case you don't get hostel facility.
