The Google Lime Scholarship

The Google Lime Scholarship- Canada is a scholarship program jointly sponsored by Lime Connect (a non-profit organization) and Google. The scholarship program aims to support brilliant students with disabilities to achieve their career goals by providing financial aid for their educational pursuits.

  • The Google Lime Scholarship is valid at renowned universities in Canada and the USA.
  • Recipients of USA universities and Canada universities are awarded 10,000 USD and 5,000 CAD respectively.
  • This scholarship program is an annual award available to students in the field of computer science and academic excellence/exceptional performance.

This program in addition to providing funding also provides networking retreats for 2022-2023 recipients of the program. Recipients will be invited to attend the virtual annual Google Scholars' Retreat at the prestigious Googleplex in Mountain View, USA. Other opportunities such as a software engineering internship with Google are made available to recipients.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the Google Lime Scholarship must fulfill the requirements given below:

  • Possess to maintain a strong academic performance throughout the course of studies.
  • Commencing higher-level studies in the USA or Canada, at a recognized university, as a full-time student.
  • Possess a visible or invisible disability, includes students with a long-term, or recurring health and/or physical issue affecting major activities or daily function.
  • Pursuing studies in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other closely related program.
  • Exhibit a demonstrated passion and strides in leadership with a commitment / deep-rooted passion for computer science and technology
  • Previous Google Lime Scholars are unfortunately not able to be considered
  • This scholarship is not open to current high school students.

Note:

  • Recipients must be enrolled in a Canadian University as a full-time student of computer science or a related field of study before the disbursement of funds to the recipient’s account
  • A recipient may only defer their award for up to one academic year from the initial resumption date.

Application Process

Interested persons who meet the eligibility criteria are required to join the Lime Network where they’ll find the link to the online application system. Through the online application system, they will be required to submit the following documents for consideration:

  • Contact Information
  • Educational details
  • Details and evidence of work experience
  • Current resume
  • Official or unofficial transcripts from the applicant's current and prior institutions
  • Three essays outlining the applicant’s passion for computer science
  • A recommendation letter from a referee in the academics or place of employment.

Note: The deadline for submission of the recommendation letter is a week after the application deadline. However, applicants are required to provide the names and email addresses of references during the application process


Selection Process

Selection process and criteria for the Google Lime Scholarship is based on

  • Applicants’ overall strength of his/her essays and application
  • Previous academic performance
  • Extracurricular activities

Recipients of the scholarship program must note that their enrollment will be verified. It is upon the verification that the students will receive their award prize for tuition fees and other study-related expenses. Furthermore, the scholarship award amount will be directly transferred to each recipient’s bank account.
