Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarships

The Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarships can be availed by meritorious Indian students studying in universities in the UK, the US and in other European countries. The program provides grants, awards, and scholarships to students doing full-time Masters, M.Phil or Doctoral degree courses.

Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarships are categorized into two types: University Courses and Specific Programs.
The foundation covers each recipient’s tuition fees as well as other expenses like living and travel costs.
The scholarship amount is given just once and the Foundation does not allocate more than USD 100,000.
Eligible candidates must be below the age of 30 years to apply for the different scholarship programs.
Shortlisted candidates are required to attend two interview sessions.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must be an Indian citizen, and residing in India for at least six months at the time of application. In addition to this, all suitable candidates for Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarships must fulfill the following requirements:

No candidate should be over the age of 30 years
Hold a first-class undergraduate degree from a recognized university in India
- International university graduates must have stayed in India for two years before applying.
Have fulfilled all the admission requirements of the chosen coursework.

Also, the applicant must NOT hold a master’s degree from an international university. The applicant must also not have already begun a postgraduate degree course abroad at the time of application.

Fellowship Specific Eligibility Requirements

Inlaks Fine Arts Awards

Completed graduation or post-graduation from any esteemed Indian institution.
- Final year visual arts students are also eligible.
If you don’t have a formal degree in visual arts, you must have prior experience in hosting art exhibitions.

Inlaks Fellowship for Indian Classical Music

Must have some formal training in Indian classical music.

Inlaks Theatre Awards

The candidate must be below the age of 35.
Completed graduate or postgraduate degree from any recognized Indian University.
- Candidates who do not have a formal degree will be considered based on their notable past achievements.

Inlaks Research Travel Grant

The candidate must be below the age of 35.
Must have either a first-class in Masters degree or a first-class in bachelors (honors) degree.
- Those who have attained a first-class in both graduation and postgraduation will be given preference.
Must have a confirmed Ph.D. program registration in Humanities and Social Science at any recognized Indian institute for a minimum period of two years but not exceeding four years.

Apart from the above-mentioned scholarships, the Foundations also gives internships, fellowships, grants, and awards under Inlaks Ravi Sankaran Programme, AAA Artist Grant, Film, and Television Awards, Sports Awards, etc.

Application Process

Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarships applications must be submitted online via the portal available on the website, usually accessible from February 15 to March 30 (12:00 pm). Each applicant can submit only one application.

Documents Required for Application

The following documents must be submitted along with the application form:

Evidence of admission to a course or a university
Financial requirements of the institute, written in detail
Photocopy of the first and last pages of passport
At least one reference letter - this can also be emailed directly to the institute at applications@inlaksfoundation.org.
- The subject line of the email should be as follows: Reference Letter | Name of Applicant | Email Address of Applicant.
Candidates applying in the field of architecture, fine and applied arts, film, dance, acting, and music, must upload their portfolio as a PDF file or share an online link.

Candidates are to verify all the information before submitting the application. In case an error persists, candidates must email the same with a screenshot at applications@inlaksfoundation.org.

Selection Process

The selection of Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarship awardees is carried out by an independent Inlaks Selection Committee of the Foundation, who analyses and evaluates all the applications, and calls promising candidates for the interviews.

After the preliminary interview stage, selected candidates are sent to the final interview round. All candidates must bring the following documents at the time of the interview:

Photocopy of the undergraduate certifications
University/college admission letter
Statement of fees
Any fee concession/ waivers (if applicable)
Evidence of financial ability in the case of any additional expenses

All the candidates that are selected for the preliminary stage interview are informed about the same by May 15. The Foundation conducts scholarship interviews either in Delhi or Mumbai in May or June.

Grant Details

The Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarships offers endowment grants to young Indians in various specializations. It allows recipients to develop and grow their scientific, artistic, cultural, and professional abilities, and showcase them both in India and abroad.

Over the years, approximately 600 scholars have received awards, and over 460 others have benefitted from the scholarships.

Inlaks Shivdasani Foundations Terms & Conditions

Scholarships are not provided in the following subjects:
1. Engineering
2. Computer science
3. Business studies
4. Medicine. Dentistry, and related therapies
5. Public health
6. Fashion design
7. Music
8. Film and film animation
In the case of Imperial College London, scholarships will be given for Engineering and Natural Sciences. Indian Studies as a subject is considered, only if it has contemporary relevance. In the field of Music, only applications for degrees in Western Classical singing will be considered. For Film, only applications for Documentary Filmmaking will be considered.
If the total required funding (tuition fees + living expenses) exceeds 100,000 USD candidates must show evidence that they can cover the additional amount. The proof must be provided at the time of making the online application and must be shown at the time of the preliminary interviews.
Foundation does NOT restrict the candidate from accepting any other awards, assistantships, part-time job opportunities.
Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarships will not be provided to candidates whose course of study requires field trips back to India during their study tenure.
If the candidates have applied for another course, which is different from the one they want funding from Inlaks for, irrespective of the institution, they should inform the Inlaks Foundation about the same.
