Skill-Based Curriculum - University of Edinburgh

RA
7.7 /10

It was ranked high for my degree and Scotland was a fun place to live. I chose computer science because I love coding.

Course Curriculum :

The course is mostly theoretical with a good amount of coursework to gain some practical experience. The syllabus was updated year and stayed on course with modern industry standards. I had the opportunity of getting an internship with Amazon in the summer of 2022.

Exams :

It depends on what background you're from. Mine was just 75% in my state board exams.

Placement :

There a lot of tech companies visiting campus like Amazon, twitter, Microsoft, Google etc for careers fairs and events. There is no placement process and you have to apply to companies individually. Although it is fairly easy to get a job in the top companies.

Internship :

I got an internship with Amazon in the summer of 2021. The salary is £3400/month with a £1000/month stipend. I had to apply on the Amazon website for the internship and had to pass an online assessment and a virtual onsite interview.

Events :

The WiFi is fast and available freely around the campus. The library and study facilities are top-notch. There are also a lot of student societies to choose from and there is always an event to go to on campus. Although this has changed with the pandemic.

Fees :

£98400 is the program fee.

Scholarship :

No, I didn't receive any scholarship.

Faculty :

The faculty-to-staff ratio is a bit low as there are a lot of students in the class. Most classes had about 400 students. I really liked my first-year professor Phil Wadler who taught us the programming language Haskell. It was great because he was one of the core team members who created the language.

Hostel :

The accommodation is a single room in an apartment with 5 students. The average rent is about £600 pounds a month.
