Incredibly Flexible program of Biomedical Sciences

I have chosen this university because of the immaculate course. The course has incredible flexibility as in Y2 you can choose very tailored modules to yourself after a Y1 which is a taster of the wide range of modules. These include: anatomy, biochemistry, genetics, neuroscience, pharmacology, cell biology among others. The campus is also situated in the heart of London with walking journey to attractions such as London eye, tower bridge etc.

Course Curriculum :

The course is divided into two segments. The first year is known as common year 1. In this year every student studies the same modules (Biochemistry, pharmacology, anatomy, neuroscience, chemistry, genetics etc) In the following year and final year you are able to choose very specific modules which tailor towards your personal interests. My theme this year is Neuropharmacology. The modules I am studying include Drugs and Disease, Neuroscience, psychology, Neuroscience and the mind, Medical Microbiology, Physiology and Pharmacology of the nervous system and drug discovery and development. The modules include a mix of lectures, practicals, tutorials and seminars. During second year students are also provided an opportunity to study a year abroad such as UCLA and there is also an opportunity for a placement year in industry. The faculty provides great guidance towards achieving these opportunities.

Exams :

I studied A Levels. The application process requires a minimum of the grades A A B for students who are studying A Levels with chemistry and biology being compulsory subjects. Those studying IB need a minimum of 35 as a score with 6,6,5 at higher level and must include Chemistry and Biology.

Placement :

There are great placement opportunities at major firms such Pfizer etc. They look at your first year score and predicted 2nd year score. There is great guidance from the faculty towards achieving these placements.

Theres never a dull moment.

Faculty :

Each lecture is delivered by extremely professional, knowledgable and esteemed lecturers and scientists. KCL is really has very terrific biosciences program. The staff are extremely friendly and approachable and you can email them with any queries at any time during your tenure at the university. Some particular lecturers to have left a great impact on me are Dr. Clemens Kiecker of the Neuroscience department and Dr. Ian Mcfadzean of the Pharmacology department.

Hostel :

There are range of accommodations which differ greatly in terms of price and facilities offered. The cheapest accommodation is around £160/ week and it can rise up to £400/week for fancy studios. They all include common rooms, laundry rooms and a library.
