Australia to provide over $11 Million in Support for Indian Students through the 'Maitri' Scholars Program

According to Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne, the 'Maitri Fellowships Program' would grant over USD 11 million over four years to encourage Indian students who aspire to study at Australia's renowned institutions. Payne highlighted a variety of new measures aimed at boosting Australia's connections with India, including new educational programmes, during a joint news conference. According to the Minister, Australia would invest more than USD 6 million over four years through the Maitri cultural collaborations to foster cultural exchanges and strengthen the creative industries in both nations. "These programmes should be called 'Maitri,' or friendship initiatives," she remarked.

At a news conference with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Payne stated that Australia and India had strong trade and investment links. Dan Tehan, the Minister for Trade, Tourism, and Investment, is on his way back from discussions on the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement in India as we speak here in Melbourne (CECA). Payne stated that both parties hope the CECA deal will open up new economic prospects for the two nations, particularly as both economies recover from the effects of Covid-19. The Maitri initiative, according to Payne, is beneficial to Australia's education system, which has recovered from the consequences of Covid-19. The MOU between the two nations was signed on Friday in New Delhi, according to Australia's Foreign Minister.
