UTS, A wonderful experience

J

UTS is the most progressive and socially active university . They are also very updated with their facilities in regards to technology. They have a huge international section so you feel as if you fit in no matter where you?re from. They have three main pillars- Aboriginal teachings, technology and social justice. I think these are very impressive and important to have as it helps create a better society. UTS is also very helpful to international students, offering great options for housing and help out where they can

Course Curriculum :

There are good and bad parts. My course needs to focus more on the practical side as that's what people expect out of the course and the theory and other subjects don't have anything to do with our course. For example, we have to do a subject called digital literacies which holds no relevance. The reason we have to do that is the music and sound course is Niche and they have just put us in the communications division with journalism, social/political science students etc so it makes no sense.

Exams :

Due to my passion and the fact that there are not much exams. I have had one exam in this course but lots of practical assessments which balance it out. The minimum score to get in the course is 75 ish. I personally didn't reach this but UTS is very accommodating and wants people to have the ability to study their passion.

Internship :

They do offer internship opportunities and UTS has many on-campus restaurants and cafes. They also have a career hub which you can go to and ask for internship opportunities which are really great and I know of many students getting full times jobs out of it

Events :

Many events! From cultural ones, religious ones, social justice, animals, sports- anything!!

Fees :

The fee structure is something I personally am not aware of as I am very fortunate to have my parents pay for my tuition. I am aware of many scholarships but not the name I do apologise. I do know friends who have got housing scholarships as they struggle to get work here. Very smart friends of mine have also gotten $5000-$15000 scholarships for the sport

Examination Structure :

For my course, there are not any exams and if there are they are not done during exam period but just the last week of normal classes.

Faculty :

I believe it is quite good. The teachers are very progressive and integrate the pillars such as social justice, aboriginal history/context and technology. They are also very passionate and want the students to excel so they will help as much as they can and are very genuine.

Hostel :

I live at UTS housing but it is off-campus. It is $320 a fortnight but I do get a small meal allowance to help me get through the fortnight. I do struggle with money as I haven't got a job here (very difficult) even with my RSA
