Experience at Waterloo

SJ
7.3 /10

it has an esteemed reputation in the sciences and associated disciplines. Computer science, math, engineering are all very strong and enjoy excellent reputations; for example, Waterloo graduates in computer science and engineering in California's silicon valley. The School of Architecture at the University of Waterloo is a leader in design education and research. All students gain valuable paid co-op work experience and the program has been rated the greenest architecture curriculum in Canada.

Course Curriculum :

In one of North America’s top schools of Architecture at the University of Waterloo, you’ll get a broad education that covers everything from building materials and construction techniques to cultural history, social context, green architecture, and more. Exams :

My SAT Score was 1150/1600, IELTS was 7 on a scale of 9 and with writing 6.5, listening 7 TOEFL:90

Placement :

The co-op program is very good, and many students get the experience of real work by the time they graduate. You can earn about CAD 15000 per semester. And majorly, co-ops make a good resume which increases your chances to get a good job. Overall, it's a little entrepreneurship oriented institution. It helps in building the network you might need in the future. Their startup incubator 'Velocity' is the world's largest free startup incubator. The university research says that after 2 years of graduating, almost 88% remain in the same field of study, which is great. LinkedIn ranked the University of Waterloo at first in Canada for Software jobs after graduate studies.

Events :

As a student studying Environment and Business, I had a mixed first year experience at UW. Amazing and extremely passionate and well-researched professors. People aren’t that fun here though, as most of them like spending time alone and do not mingle with others easily. But the other part of my success at the university derives from my actions and personality: taking risks, strong work ethic, developing passion for my program, exhausting my resources/connections, and practicing resilience. An experience is largely based on what you make out of it.

Scholarship :

NA

Faculty :

The faculty is great. They could do a better job trying to figure out what students want in order to succeed. For example, my faculty could help us find more art/ business jobs to fill our internships.

Campus Life :

The reason I have chosen this college was that it had a co-op program. It was also one of the only schools to offer both an arts and business program. I wanted to study social sciences; however, I also wanted to study the business side of things. The University of Waterloo let me do exactly that.It needs to be modified. There are things that we are learning for the sake of learning them. When I sit in my business classes, I feel that I am getting something out of it. With my social science classes, things are outdated and irrelevant. I also don't think lectures are effective.

Hostel :

I lived off campus. This was the best for me as I was able to make friends on my own will. I also was able to cook myself which saved me a lot of money. I found a place that housed the least people as possible. So, I live with 1 other roommate.
