life at McMaster!!!

Well, my first and foremost reason would be its reputation not only in Canada but around the globe. As far as the ranking of engineering disciplines matters, McMaster provides top notch education along with practical engineering experience. I really like the structure of the program. It also involves a co-op term, which is one of the main factors that persuaded me to choose this university. McMaster is a real beauty when it comes to campus life. It has people from different nations, so you will get a chance to meet likeminded people who share similar interests.

Course Curriculum :

My course is designed in two ways, one is a course-based option and the other one is a course +project-based option. To graduate, one has to finish 30 credits (10 courses or 8 courses + 2 projects). Both of the options are good on their own. As for project-based, you will be working with industry and doing a project on the problem that they are facing or the solution that they need, so by doing this you will get a chance to make a relationship with them, which later on will be helpful for a full job position. As far as the courses is concerned, all the courses are designed in such a way that you will get not only theoretical knowledge but also practical knowledge too. Unlike writing theoretical exams, almost all the courses involve projects, assignments, and reflection papers.

Exams :

Minimum Requirement was 6.5 bands with no less than 6 in each modules. My IELTS score was 7 (Overall).

Placement :

Fresh graduate students can expect a package starting at $60,000 per annum and going higher as per their skill set and experience. McMaster has a job portal called OscarPlus, from where students can apply for full job opportunities.

Internship :

Currently, I am doing my Co-op as an Automation Intern at one of the reputed company called Mold Masters when it comes to the market of Injection molding and Hot runner around the globe. It is a 12 month of full time Co-op with hourly wage of $25.

Fees :

42000 Canadian dollar for entire program

Faculty :

The faculty to student ratio depends upon the courses that you take. Some courses are so popular that enrollment gets closed pretty soon, so the maximum will be 60 students to 1 faculty, but generally it varies from 30 to 40 students per faculty. All the faculty are well-regarded for their disciplines and have exceptional knowledge of their fields.

Campus Life :

McMaster Athletics and Recreation offers a wide variety of opportunities to maintain a regular exercise routine, including varsity athletics, team intramurals, drop-in activities, and outdoor recreation. The facilities include the Ivor Wynne Centre, the David Braley Athletic Centre and the Ron Joyce Stadium, which combine to house seven gymnasiums, three studios, three natural grass fields, two artificial soft-surface fields, a 50m pool, a 200m indoor track, squash courts, an indoor climbing wall, a high ropes course and one of the largest university fitness centres in Canada. McMaster is home to three excellent campus libraries featuring all of the academic resources you need for your studies, which are Mills Memorial Library, Innis Library, and the H.G. Thode Library of Science & Engineering. McMaster provides healthy food options on the campus itself, with options to accommodate vegan, vegetarian, halal and gluten-free dietary restrictions. We have different cafes and restaurants such as Starbucks, Tim Hortons, CAFE ONE, Pizza pizza, Booster juice, Cento, La Piazza, Phoenix Bar & Grill and so many others. The campus is fully facilitated with free high speed internet Wi-Fi.

Hostel :

The average cost of living outside the campus near the university area's varies from $500 to $600 for a personal room with all utilities included. There are some cheap options available as well, or students may share with other people to cut down on the rent. Sharing a room can cost anywhere between $350 and $450 based on the location where you are living.
