Satish Chandra Dhawan Government College was initially known as “Imperial College”. Situated in Ludhiana, Punjab SCDGC was established in 1920. The institute is affiliated to Punjab University, Chandigarh. SCDGC has been accredited A grade by NAAC. The Institue offers BA, B.SC, and B.Com. Satish Chandra Dhawan Government College offers UG courses- BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA and BCA in various specializations. SCD Government Evening College offers B.A. course in the Evening as well to the students who work in the morning but want to continue their studies along with their job.

For any UG course candidates have to study certain subjects compulsorily and for optional subjects, candidates can choose any one of the five combinations.

Compulsory subjects for BA course are Punjabi/ History and Culture of Punjab, English, Environment, Road Safety Education and Violence against Women & Children and Drug.

Compulsory subjects for B.Sc course are Punjabi/ History and Culture of Punjab, Environment, Road Safety Education.

The subject combinations for optional subjects in BA course are:

  • Sanskrit cannot be opted along with Political Science.
  • Mathematics can be taken up only if the student has studied the subject of Math in the previous class.
  • Mathematics cannot be opted along with Physical Education, Psychology, Geography and Sanskrit.
  • Students can opt for the Honors programme in the Second and Third Year of their B.A. / B.Com Course. To take up Honors, the student must have scored at least 50% marks in the concerned subject.
  • The students, who have passed 10+2 class from other state board except, ICSE, CBSE and PSEB, must submit their originals certificates and Migration certificates before August 31, 2021, in the college.
  • NCC and NSS certificate holders are given 1%, 2% and 3% weight age in the final merit list depending upon if they have A, B or C certificate respectively.

  • The students who have got admission in M.A. /M.Sc. /M.Com. /M.Sc. (IT) is required to submit their original certificates as well as Migration certificates if they have graduated from University other than PU Chandigarh before August 31, 2021.
  • An applicant who has already passed M.A. in any subject will not be eligible for admission to any postgraduate course.

Application Process 2023

Candidates must follow the steps given below in order to apply for admission in SCD Government College:

  • Visit the official website 
  • Click on Apply Online.
  • Click on – “New Candidates register”.
  • Fill the registration form and click on save and register.
  • After this candidates will be shown Username, password and Applicant ID. Candidates must note down these and click on Continue.
  • In next step, candidates need to verify the email id and OTP.
  • After verifying candidates need to fill the application form and upload photo and signature.
  • Candidates need to fill the complete details i.e. personal and academic details.
  • Shortlisted candidates will receive an SMS for interview/counseling.

Candidates need to bring following relevant certificates for verification by on the date of counseling.

  • The hard copy of the form.
  • A passport size photograph (unattested).
  • Original mark sheets and a self-attested photocopy of each certificate.
  • Character Certificate from the Institute last attended.
  • Reservation Category Certificate, if any and its photocopy.
  • Residents of Punjab who belongs to SC/ST category and whose annual family income is less than 2.5 Lakhs should bring the Income Certificate and a self-declaration to avail fee concession.
  • Proof of Residence.
  • Migration Certificate for students who passed their lower examination from universities/boards other than Punjab University/ Punjab School Education Board Mohali.
  • Eligibility certificate from Punjab University if you have passed your lower examination from other states (except for Haryana and Himachal Pradesh).
  • Blood Group certificate issued by doctor or lab.
  • After admission is provisionally confirmed, the candidate has to download the fees Challan on the next day of counseling.
  • The student is required to deposit the admission fee in any computerized core banking branch of State Bank of India.
  • On verification of the fee deposited in the bank, the college will allow the college roll number to the admitted students, which will be sent through SMS.
  • The candidate has to submit the college copy of Challan in the college within next two working days. The college roll number sent to the students admitted must be written on the fee Challan to be submitted.

Scholarship

Deserving and Needy Students can apply for the following scholarships and incentives.

  • Scholarships that are given on the basis of merit are:
  1. University Scholarships, presented by the University.
  2.  Scholarships by the Punjab Education Board, presented by the Punjab Government.
  3. National Scholarships, presented by the Central Government.
  • Scholarships for Scheduled Castes/ Tribes and Backward Classes: These are presented by the Indian Government and State government.
  • National loan Scholarships: This loan scholarship can be given to students who score 50% or more on the basis of merit, and whose parent’s annual income is less than INR.2, 50,000.
  • Post Matric Scholarship Scheme: Permanent residents of Punjab belonging to Scheduled Castes are given these scholarships for purposes of Post Matric/secondary education. Their family income from all sources must not exceed INR 2, 50,000.
  • State Scheduled Caste Scheme: The students belonging to scheduled castes, that are the permanent residence of Punjab and are studying in the colleges/institutions of Punjab, can avail of this welfare fund., family income must be less than INR 2,50,000.
  • Low income-class Scholarship: This scholarship is given to students who do not belong to Scheduled Caste and Backward section, but their parent's annual income is less than INR 2, 50,000.

Admission:

Admission to this college is based on 12 class markings. which is on merit-based admission and counselling. there are also reservation systems followed. I want that counselling is will be online and the fees of courses to be displayed before the counselling.

Admission:

The eligibility for the BBA course is candidate should be passed their 10+2 in any stream or equivalent examination from any recognized board or school. The application form, fees, and dates could be found on the college's official website. There are some reserved seats for category students students also. No there is no need for any improvement in the admission process everything is good.
