Ans. According to one of my cousin’s personal experiences, Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding is a very innovative course that a student can pursue, therefore get a chance to explore many different things. If you are interested in pursuing DoST CUSAT, then there are ample opportunities that you can get. Not only in terms of education but the college provides an excellent placement to all the students. But at the same time, you should be aware enough to grab the opportunities and work very hard to achieve the targeted career opportunities. There is a group of well-qualified faculty members who prepare you for all your future endeavors so that you can make the best out of yourself. Not only academics but they give you hands-on experience to the particular that is very helpful for you during your placement interviews. The placements are quite decent in which many prestigious companies across the country as well as from many other countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and various other countries participate. But due to the oil crisis, the placements were a little dull during the past one to two years. If we look at the overall placements they are good. Number of students placed 21 Highest CTC offered INR 24 LPA Average CTC offered INR 10 LPA Therefore, we can conclude that the placement opportunities for Naval Architecture and shipbuilding are very attractive to opt for.Read more

Ques. Is marine engineering good in CUSAT?

● Top Answer By Neha Uniyal on 05 May 21

Ans. I have a few friends at CUSAT, according to them, the Marine Engineering program offered by CUSAT is quite good. However, the number of boys in the branch is more. As girls mostly refrain from joining Marine Engineering.  Being said that, the placement statistics for the branch are quite good. Here is a brief highlight of 2020 placement for the branch. Average CTC 3 LPA Highest CTC 5 LPA Top Recruiters  MOL, Fleet, Synergy Job Roles Marine Engineer Compared to other BTech branches the Marine Engineering branch enjoys less freedom. The department is 1 km away from the BTech college of CUSAT and the rules are a bit strict too.Read more

Ques. Should I join AMET University for Naval architecture (lateral entry)?

● Top Answer By Mansi Topa on 05 Apr 21

Ans. It cannot be said yes or no for this question as it depends upon you how much you are interested in this field. While entering college you need to have an interest in the maritime field. This means that you should know about this field, growth, career, etc. You also need to have an interest in design, food production, and technology. Since this stream is very rarely taken by students, it is very costly. For choosing such a stream you should first assure yourself that you are financially sound. The various benefit of perusing naval architecture from AMET University is as follows: As this is a totally different field you will stand out among the crowd in the society and you may get a job as lesser people take this stream. If you try jobs abroad you may get good opportunities abroad with higher packages. You will also be getting challenging projects which will help you in your career. The various types of limitations of perusing this type of course are: You may get less opportunity in India. As a fresher, you may not get good jobs with good salaries. Since you will find difficulty in getting jobs your career growth will get hampered. This field requires more innovation which can be sometimes difficult for you. Since after investing a huge amount of money in this course there is no guarantee that you will get a good job with handsome salary, so there is a lesser return on investment. Now the final decision is yours. So, choose wisely.Read more

Ques. What are the future prospects of doing a B.Tech in marine engineering from Indian Maritime University?

● Top Answer By Anwita Dhar on 17 Feb 21

Ans. While considering to opt for Marine Engineering, you must ensure that your decision is not based on information alone. As the available information will give you awareness on the subject but it will not create or develop your passion in this field of engineering. So one must be absolutely sure of their choice before opting for such a course, as it involves certain essential factors to be considered such as: You are away from your home for quite longer durations. Also, you may or may not get to visit any port while on your journey depending on the type of vessel you are sailing in. For example, tankers might opt to anchor at open ocean and they might not even visit any port, or say container vessels that load and load quite fast giving you no time for sightseeing at any port. Although merchant marine is one of the parts of this industry, if you are driven enough and educated from a paramount institute then there are good future prospects that entail you such as finding a job with oil companies or research vessels, etc. These options are quite competitive and difficult to find but if one is passionate enough you might yourself availing these opportunities in the future. Tabulated below are some relevant facts about the Indian Maritime University: Particulars Indian Maritime University Courses Offered Undergraduate and Postgraduate University Type Central University Entrance Accepted IMU CET No. of Students Placed from B.Tech (recent) 19 There are other options available such as working for a year or two and then pursuing a master’s degree or working in a consultancy firm. Or you may work for one or two years and get a master's and work for a designer or consultancy etc. Opportunities are available everywhere and there will always be new hurdles as well as discoveries along with them. One must not blame themselves for a decision once it is made!Read more

Campus Life :

It has Air-conditioned reading room and the library opens till midnight. It provides better security to the students along with 24hrs emergency facilities. Ensuring Maritime Training with International Standard AMET University had provided the best infrastructure in terms of class rooms with modern teaching aids, well equipped workshops for practical training, Marine workshop for hands on training on Marine Auxiliaries, Ship in campus, well furnished Hostel, Canteen facilities, Indoor & Outdoor games, Swimming pool, Medical facilities & an overall congenial atmosphere for learning by the students.

Admission :

I opted for this course as I was interested in merchant navy. After completing btech in mechanical engineering I came to know that there is a one year course for btech graduates for becoming marine engineer so I opted this course. College conducted an entrance exam in kochi based on your skills aptutude etc. I got cleared the entrance exam and the second stage was an interview at chennai after clearing the interview I got confirm my seat. The admission process completed on august itself and the class started on18 dec 2019. Expecting our course will complete in 2020 itself.

Remarks :

The hostel rooms you get are way too small for even two of them to live comfortably. But they stuff in 3 students per room, Upon that they conjust your room with study tables, chairs, buckets(which do not fit under the bed) table mates, and they provided so. only to look good during inspections done by AICTE or DG shipping. Once upon a time Amet gave 100% placement to the students, however now the students getting placed from GME is very little. It is nothing wrong about the institute rather the entire field is not in a good position.
