MH CET Law 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Qualification, Marks, Age Limita

MH CET Law Eligibility Criteria 2023 is that candidates must have scored a minimum aggregate of 45% in their qualifying exam. There is no upper age limit for candidates to appear for MH CET 2023. However, the official eligibility requirement states that only Indian Nationals can apply.

General Eligibility

MH CET Law 2023 Eligibility Criteria: General Qualification

Listed below are the standards that are common to both the programs i.e. MAH-LLB (3 years) and MAH-LLB (5 years). 

  • Nationality – Candidate should be an Indian Citizen
  • Age Limit – There is no upper age limit for both the programs
  • Registration – Final year candidates are eligible to apply for the law exam

MH CET Law 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Candidature Qualification

There are various types of candidature under which the eligibility standards are stated by the competent authority. They are as follows:

Maharashtra State Candidature

There are various types of candidatures that come under this category. They are as follows:

  • Type A -  a candidate who is Domicile of Maharashtra or born in Maharashtra, or
  • Type B -  candidate’s father or mother is domiciled in the State of Maharashtra, or
  • Type C -  candidate’s father/ mother is an employee of the GOI or GOI Undertaking and is posted and reported to duty in Maharashtra State before the last date for submitting the Application Form for CAP, or
  • Type D – candidate’s father or mother is an employee of the Government of Maharashtra or Government of Maharashtra Undertaking, or
  • Type E - candidates passing SSC and or HSC Examination or Equivalent Examination from a recognized institution from a disputed Maharashtra Karnataka Border Area and whose Mother tongue is Marathi.

All India Candidature

Candidates having Indian Nationality are eligible to fill in the application form for MH CET Law under this category.

Minority Candidature

The Maharashtra domiciled candidate belonging to a particular Linguistic or Religious Minority Community within the State and as notified by the Government are considered eligible.

NRI/ Foreign Students/ OCI/ PIO Candidature

These candidates are not required to apply and appear for MH CET Law 2023. They only need to apply for CAP rounds as per the schedule.

Jammu and Kashmir Migrant Candidature

  1. Children of J&K citizens, who are
    • displaced from J&K to any part of India or
    • from the unsafe border area of J&K to a relatively safer place in J&K from 1990 onwards due to terrorist activities; or
  2. Children of officers belonging to Indian Administrative Services (IAS) or Indian Police Services (IPS) or Indian Foreign Services (IFS) and children of staff belonging to military and paramilitary forces transferred to J&K to combat terrorist activities and joined the post on or before the last date for submission of application for admission; or
  3. Children of staff and officers of J&K police engaged in combating terrorism; are eligible under this category.

Academic Eligibility

MH CET Law 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Academic Qualification

The educational qualification required for both programs is different. Below is the academic eligibility criteria mentioned for each of the programs.

For MAH-Law 5-year Integrated Law Program

  • Candidates applying must have passed their SSC (10th Class) and HSC (Class 12th) from a recognized school in Maharashtra State.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ ST category) in the qualifying examination (Maharashtra State Candidates).

Note(s):

  1. SSC and HSC graduates from outside the Maharashtra State Board will be considered as Open Category Candidates irrespective of their Caste/ Category.
  2. Candidates appearing for the Class 12 examination in the academic year 2017-18 are also eligible for MH CET Law 2023. The admissions will be confirmed if they score the minimum qualifying marks and produce the same while filling in the CAP form.
  3. Students who have appeared for the board exam through the Open University system without having a basic formal education will not be considered eligible for MH CET Law 2023.

For 3-year Law Program

  • Candidates applying must have passed their Graduate or Postgraduate degree in any stream from a recognized university of Maharashtra or India.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ ST category) in the qualifying examination (Maharashtra State Candidates).

Note(s):

  1. Final year/ last semester candidates are eligible for the 3-year program. The admission will be provisional till the time they do not clear the qualifying examination.
  2. Final semester mark sheets must be submitted at the time of counselling.

MH CET Law Reservations

MH CET Law 2023: Seat Reservation

A reservation scheme is defined for governing the admission process in MH CET Law Exam Accepting Colleges. The rule is uniformly applicable to Government colleges, government-aided professional educational institutions, and aided undergraduate degree departments/ courses in law into non-agricultural universities.

MH CET Law 2023 Reservation Policy

  • 85% seats are laterally reserved for students of the state of Maharashtra in all the Government/Government aided/ Government aided minority institutions/ University departments/ courses.
  • 10% seats are reserved laterally for students from all over the country in all the Government/Government aided/ Government aided minority institutions/ University departments/ courses.
  • 5% seats are reserved under the NRI/OCI/PIO quota for foreign nationals or Indian candidates with foreign nationality in all the Government/Government aided/ Government aided minority institutions/ University departments/ courses.
  • In unaided institutes, there is no minority quota and 65% of seats are reserved for students of Maharashtra state.
  • In unaided minority institutes, 51% of seats are reserved for minority candidates.
  • 20% of seats are directly reserved for NRI/OCI/PIO/Foreign candidates in all the unaided institutes. This includes a 5% quota defined for NRI/OCI/PIO/Foreign candidates.

Ques. What is the meaning of aggregate marks in MH CET Law 2023 Eligibility?

Ans. Aggregate marks mean the Grand Total of marks scored in the qualifying examination/ Diploma/ Degree and as given by the Conducting Board.

Ques. How to convert grades or CGPA into marks for MH CET Law 2023 Eligibility?

Ans. In the case grading system or CGPA system is followed, the conversion will be based on the formula/procedure certified by the Board University from where the candidate has obtained their certificate or marks. Ques. Who is not eligible for MH CET Law 2023?

Ans. A person who has successfully completed the HSC/ Graduation is eligible to apply for the exam. But if the candidate has completed SSC in regular mode but has not completed any year of education from classes 1-9 in regular mode, then he/she is not eligible for the law entrance examination.
