What is TNEA? TNEA or Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions is a counselling process conducted by Anna University each year for admissions into the engineering and related technology courses in the state of Tamil Nadu. The process involves five major steps- Registration, Payment of Registration Fee, Choice Filling, Seat Allotment and Confirmation. The admissions into TNEA participating colleges are purely based on Merit List prepared on the basis of Class 12th scores of the registered candidates and no entrance exam is conducted for the same. According to TNEA 2021 Eligibility Criteria, candidates seeking admissions into B.Tech/B.E courses and related technical courses must be a native of Tamil Nadu or have completed his/her Intermediate education in Tamil Nadu. In addition to the domicile criteria, the candidate should score at least 45% (for General category) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in class 12th. Candidates must pay an application fee of INR 500 (General) or INR 250 (Reserved) during their online application.

TNEA 2021 Eligibility Criteria

It is very important for candidates to know before applying as failing to meet any of the criteria would lead to rejection of the form. Only, the candidates who qualify the eligibility conditions must proceed to fill the application form.

TNEA 2021 Domicile Criteria

According to the Domicile Criteria for TNEA 2021, the following candidates are eligible to register. The candidate is required to meet any one of the following Domicile Criteria to register for TNEA 2021:

TNEA 2021 Academic Qualifications

  • Candidates must have passed their intermediate (Class 12th) or equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects
  • Minimum marks required for TNEA admissions is 45% in Class 12th for General Category for all other category it is 40%

TNEA 2021 Age Criteria

  • Minimum age of candidates: 18 years
  • Maximum age of candidates: 25 years
  • As per the TNEA rules, age relaxation provision is present for the reserved category.
TNEA Admission Process

TNEA 2021 Admission Process

No entrance exam is conducted for TNEA 2021. Admissions are on the basis of class 12th marks of the registered candidates. The steps involved in TNEA 2021 Admission process are:

  • The candidate has to register onsesale on the official website for the TNEA 2021 admission process.
  • Upon registration the candidate would be allotted a unique roll number/registration number and password
  •  The candidate then needs to verify his certificates at the designated TNEA facilitation centres.
  • Shortly after verification process, a merit list of the selected candidates would be published which would form the basis of the TNEA 2021 counselling process
  • The candidates mentioned in the merit lists are eligible for the counselling process after payment of the initial deposit for the counselling. In the counselling process the candidates are required to choose the institutes and courses as per his rank based on which the candidate may or may not be allotted a seat in the seat allotment process.
  • If the candidate is satisfied with his seat allotment, he has to confirm his allotment. 
  • The candidates who have accepted the allotted option are required to report to the allotted institute at the specified date and time. 
TNEA Registration

TNEA 2021 Application Form

Students can fill TNEA 2021 Application Form online on the official website until August 24, 2021. The detailed steps to fill and submit TNEA 2021 Application Form are as following:

  • Visit the official website and select the “Online Registration” link.
  • Register and obtain a Registration number/Login ID and Password
  • Fill personal and academic details and attach the relevant form as and when required.
  • After ensuring all the information entered is correct and relevant, submit the application and pay the application fees by debit card, credit card, UPI and other payment options. 
  • Take a printout of the filled application form or save it as an soft copy

Candidates must ensure that the email ID and mobile number they are submitting are active till the completion of the counselling process so that the university can notify them of any correction or update. 

Since no form correction is allowed after submission, candidates must fill their TNEA 2021 Application Form very carefully

TNEA 2021 Counselling

TNEA 2021 Counselling will be held from September 7 to October 20. The students would be called for counselling rounds on the basis of their ranks, reservation and choices filled in the merit list and allotted colleges as such. A counselling call letter would be released by the authorities after the submission of the counselling fee. During counselling candidates would be allotted seats in TNEA participating colleges in Tamil Nadu. Once a college is allotted, the candidate must report to the college on the specified date and time in the allotment letter.

Documents Required for TNEA 2021 Counselling

Candidates have to present their original documents for verification at the time of counselling. Documents required during the counselling process are as follows:

  • Original Class 10th and class 12th certificate and mark sheet
  • Proof of identity - Aadhaar Card or other
  • Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • Domicile certificate and in case the candidate is exempted from being domiciled of Tamil Nadu relevant proof of employment and declarations of the parents.

TNEA Merit List

TNEA 2021 Merit List

Authorities will release TNEA 2021 Merit List which contains the names of the students eligible to participate in the next counselling process. The merit list is generated based on the candidate’s Class 12th scores for subjects- Maths, Physics and Chemistry out of a total marks of 200 (Maths- 100, Physics- 50 and Chemistry- 50).

TNEA 2021 Merit List includes both the overall rank and community rank published on the official website. After the publication of the merit list, a week is reserved to address any grievances put forward by the applicant. 

TNEA Cutoff

TNEA 2021 Cutoff

Anna University will issue TNEA 2021 cutoffs through online mode only. TNEA 2021 Cutoff will be published only on the official website. Candidates who will satisfy the cut off marks released by Anna University will get admission in various professional courses in different colleges only.

  • The cut off marks are the minimum marks that candidates should get for getting admission in top colleges through TNEA 2021. Anna University issues TNEA cutoff marks after the completion of the application process. 

The cutoff released is based on many factors such as availability of seats, number of candidates applied, 10 + 2 performance of candidates etc.

TNEA 2021 Reservation for Sports Quota

Ques. What will be the basis for admission to the TNEA 2021 General category?

Ans. Candidates will be selected on the basis of the intermediate score for admission in TNEA 2021. His obtained marks in the prescribed class 12th subjects (Mathematics – 100, Physics +Chemistry – 100) would be reduced to 200 for the generation of merit list. 

Ques. When will TNEA 2021 random number rank list be released?

Ans. TNEA rank list will be released on the official website as well as sent to the registered mobile number and email id after the application process is completed.The scheduled date for TNEA 2021 Random Number Generation is August 25,2021

Ans. Candidates must note that only Tamil Nadu native candidates are eligible for Special Reservation in TNEA 2021. All the eligible outside candidates, as per TNEA 2021 Eligibility Criteria, would be considered for admissions on openseats.

Ques. I have scored 95% marks in my 10+2 examination, will I get the college and branch of my choice in TNEA 2021 ?

Ans: It is not certain, the allotment of the seat depends upon the availability of seats in the course and the rank of the candidate. However, candidates with good scores in their 10+2 examination will be given priority while allotting the seats in TNEA 2021. 

Ques. What is the counselling fee for TNEA 2021?

Ans: Candidates will have to pay the initial deposit of INR 5000(INR 1000 for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) as the counselling fee for TNEA 2021, it can be paid either online or at the facilitation centre.

Ans: Yes, you will be eligible for the third round of TNEA 2021 counselling if such a case occurs. However, there is no guarantee that you will get the same college and course again. You will still have to fill in and lock your choices to secure the seat.

Ques. What is the procedure after TNEA 2021 counselling is over?

Ans: After the end of TNEA counselling, the candidate will have to report to the allotted institution along with the allotment letter & documents to complete the admission process. Candidates will also have to pay the course fee and complete other formalities.

Ques. What are TNEA 2021 Facilitation centres?

Ans: TNEA 2021 Facilitation centres will be opened across the 32 districts of Tamil Nadu to assist the students in attending online counselling, get the application form, and remission of fees. 

Ques. What is the minimum qualification to appear for TNEA 2021 Admission process?

Ans: Candidates have to pass their 10+2 or equivalent examination with PCM as compulsory subjects from a recognised board in order to be eligible for TNEA 2021. Candidates must also secure a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate (General Category), 40% marks (OBC Category) & 40% marks (MBC, DNC, SC, ST & SCA Category).

Hi Arvind, you have to produce student’s nativity certificate if the student completed his class 12 board from outside Tamil Nadu. The format will be prescribed by TNEA authority and the nativity certificate can be obtained by local Tahsildar office.

Hi Kirupalakshmi, You can reapply for TNEA with fresh phone number and email address. Before making a fresh application please check your previously registered email address as you may have received a copy of application form. Find the registration number in that form and match with the original registration number. If it is correct then no need to make fresh application. Hi Rohita, the application form is common for all the courses. Anna University offers a 5-year B.Arch program and the admissions are made on the basis of entrance test as well as marks in board exam. Marks in class 12 should be at least 50% to apply for B.Arch course.

Hi Mohamed, payment can be made online through credit/debit card and net banking only. If payment is incomplete at first attempt then try again. If you are still facing issues then contact the exam conducting authority or initiate a fresh registration with another phone number and email id. Is the TNEA online registration one time and valid for all the courses ( BTECH / BE ). At what stage is the course selection done. For ex. my daughter is interested in courses such as Industrial Biotech / Pharma Tech / Food tech / Chem Engg. She has not appeared in JEE Mains.
