Prof. Dr. Prathap Suganthirababu has been working as the Vice Principal, Professor and Research Coordinator for Doctoral Studies at Saveetha College of Physiotherapy, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has done Graduation in Physiotherapy, Post-Graduation in Neurological Physiotherapy from Annamalai University and PhD in Physiotherapy from Saveetha University of Chennai as part of his academics. He has a wonderful 19 years of professional experience working in India and abroad. His areas of research interest are Diabetic Neuropathy, Stroke, Oncological Rehabilitation and Laser Therapy. He has supervised 131 undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and has also guided 10 PhD thesis and 3 collaborative international researches. In addition to all this, he has published 52 peer reviewed research papers, 8 book chapters and 2 patents on his name. He has received numerous awards in Physiotherapy from professional bodies and academic institutions and also serves as a Member of Academic Advisory Board for various universities in India and abroad.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

"Education sector has helped me to become a better facilitator and person and hence I am here"

My 20 years of experience in Physiotherapy research and academic field enabled me to evolve as a facilitator and person for the fast growing physiotherapy profession. And education is the only sector which constantly keeps me connected with information literacy and helps me to stay updated with the latest developments, trends and requirements of both the industrial and educational world. Also, I face different kinds of challenges while educating students as everyone has different levels of understanding and information gathering power, so overall this sector helps me to improve myself, make me a better person and professional and give me abundant chances to achieve excellence in the education I offer to students. 

How does your institute enhance the faculties skills and train them as per industry standards?

"Faculty members are trained through FDPs and financial aids are given to them for research programs"

For the purpose of enhancing our faculties skills and knowledge in all dimensions and training them as per industry standards and developments, our college regularly organizes Faculty Development Programs and we also provide academic incentives, travel grants, research funds and to promote their skill enrichments.

The main pillars of our college's greatest strengths and resilience are our choice based, flexible and industry oriented curriculum, teaching practices and processes, industry specific training programs and transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research and publication facilities which we have established for students and faculty members. Being the Vice Principal of SCPT, what are your responsibilities for the institute and students?

"Making sure we stay compliant with educational and industrial standards is my main responsibility"

As a Vice Principal, I am responsible for fulfilling the mission and vision of our college and ensuring prime training programs for students and faculty members. Additionally, I need to head the Research Committee and PG level Neurological Physiotherapy Program of our college, make sure students and teaching staff receive a healthy working-learning environment and curriculum of our college is developed keeping in mind the latest industrial developments, requirements and educational practices and standards. 

What career opportunities are available for students after finishing the Neurology Program from your college?

"Students can either go for higher studies, join institutes as an educator or start their own business"

In today's ever changing and dynamic world, students will have enough job opportunities in the field of Physiotherapy. And after successfully completing our MPT course in Neurology, they can start their own speciality oriented private practice, work in Universities as an Academician or can even go for research programs. And to produce best Professionals and make them industry ready, we provide full support and assistance to our students and also arrange customized training programs from time to time.

In your viewpoint, what should be the top priority of your college in the upcoming 5 years?

In my opinion, we should focus on preserving our college reputation and should continue delivering high quality education in the domain of Physiotherapy. In addition to this, we must conduct futuristic research and experiments in the field of Neurological Physiotherapy for the benefit of society. Lastly, our focus should be on enhancing and expanding our collaboration with other institutions of India and abroad to make sure our students potential benefit the outer world.

How do you maintain a healthy relationship with everyone in your college?

"By forming Mentee-Mentor system in college to tackle students issues and organizing activities regularly"

We have established a personalized Mentor-Mentee system to address students academic and non-academic issues and queries on a daily basis and ensure a positive learning and growth environment for them and professional Counselors are also there to guide them. Also, we organize Students Council Meetings to get feedback from students and various kinds of extracurricular events and activities on a weekly basis with the support of our college Committees and Clubs, in order to involve students in multiple tasks, give them a platform to showcase their skills and to help them develop their interpersonal relationship with their peers and faculties. 

Lastly, we train our faculties to meet growing societal needs and in need any student can approach their respective faculty without any hesitation.
