Giants from the world of business literature congregate at the Third edition of BIMTECH Business Literature Festival 2023

The two-days festival with different engaging sessions with renowned business authors is expected to draw a crowd of over 500 people

BIMTECH

Date: February 10, 2023

GREATER NOIDA / February 10, 2023: Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) in association with Penguin Random House today inaugurated the Third edition of its annual BIMTECH Business Literature Festival 2023. The niche literary meet is bringing together leading business authors, industry experts, management students and business professionals to engage in thought-provoking discussions on the latest trends and developments in the world of business.

The festival was inaugurated by, Shri Bhupender Yadav, co-author of the book “The Rise of the BJP: The Making of the World's Largest Political Party”, and the Union Minister of Labour and Employment and Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. While delivering the keynote address on the importance of literature in shaping and influencing modern business practice, Chief Guest, Shri Bhupender Yadav said, “Books play a key role in developing business modules. It is a great initiative on a management institute’s part to have organized a business literature festival as it boosts education and learning. In today’s date, most bestselling books on personality development as well as books of different course curriculum stress on inner wisdom and personal journey. Essentially, it leads to the topic of mindfulness. Mindfulness is all about being aware of different components of life and in my opinion the best book on mindfulness is Yoga Sutra. The first Sutra “Atha Yoga Anushasanam”, talks about refining one’s attitude while adopting the practice of yoga. The second Sutra “Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodah”, refers to everything moving through the space of the heart and says that distractions are of five types. The management of all these five stages of emotions is what yoga is about. We cannot manifest outer success unless we have inner peace. Management is not just about climbing the ladder of success, but it’s about navigating through relationships patiently. Hope that in coming times there will be more discussions on books that talk about Eastern life philosophies.”

The two-days festival brings together some of the brightest minds in the industry for a series of candid talks, panel discussions, book-launches, reviews and informative masterclasses. There are also exclusive author signing sessions and book stalls that have been set up by prominent publishing houses such as Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, Kunzum Books, and Rupa Publications. The festival is graced by eminent personalities such as Mr. Harish Bhat, Brand Custodian-Tata Sons, author of #TataStories and TataLog, Mr. Kiran Karnik, Author of Decisive Decade, Ms. Christine Amour-Levar, Author of Wild Wisdom, Mr. Bharat Wakhlu, Founder, The Wakhlu Advisory TWA, Mr. Parmesh ShahaniAuthor of Queeristan; LGBTQ Inclusion in the Indian Workplace, Founder of Godrej India Culture Lab, LGBTQ Inclusion consultantand author of Tata's Leadership Experiment, among othersThe dignitaries are sharing insights and experiences on a range of topics, from innovation and entrepreneurship to corporate strategy and leadership.

Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director of BIMTECH, said, "Reading is an integral part of a student’s and academicians’ life. An opportunity for them to listen, discuss and absorb the ideas from the best of business literary minds through this festival is a huge learning experience. The initiative started during the pandemic in a virtual mode and this year in its third edition, we have hosted it in the campus, in order to offer a bigger platform for discussion and collaboration and bring invaluable insights and perspectives to the table. We are proud to have hosted this festival and are grateful to all who participated, making it an unforgettable experience."

This one-of-a-kind literature festival emphasizes on going beyond textbooks and case-studies in B-schools to learn through stories and experiences of others. The aim is to encourage the habit of reading business literature amongst students and professionals. Part of this year’s lineup featured authors PKD Nambiar, Ankit Jhamb and Prof. Bharat H. Desai unveiling their books You, Too, can be a brand, The Most Negative Book of Positivity and Envisioning Our Environmental Future respectively.

Celebrating Glorious 35 Years of BIMTECH

Strengthening the BIRLA ETHOS of an inclusive, equitable and sustainable tomorrow

BIMTECH

Date: October 04, 2022

GREATER NOIDA, India (October 2, 2022): The 35th Foundation of BIMTECH falls on October 2nd, which is also celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti. The fact that BIMTECH’s Foundation Day falls on Gandhi Jayanti makes the day even more significant for the institute, and it signifies the institute's withering commitment to the values of social welfare.

The three-day celebration started on September 30th with a Drama Festival organized in collaboration with Asmita Theatre Group, New Delhi. On the first day, citizens of Greater Noida witnessed the performance of a hard-hitting street play "NASHA" on the social evils of alcoholism and addiction, which was performed for the community at Birla Vidya Kendra, Pari Chowk. In the evening, the conscience of the citizens of NCR was further awakened after watching a stage adaptation of Munshi Premchand’s story "Moteram Ka Satygrah", which mocks the system, particularly bureaucracy. On day two, the festival continued with the same zeal and enthusiasm during which a street play was performed near Yatharth Hospital, Greater Noida. "Mard" highlighted how males are conditioned to be tough and suppress their emotions, challenging the conventions of traditional masculinity. The play was successful in grabbing the attention of passers-by and was able to gather great appreciation from the audience.

On October 1st, the staging of the socio-emotional play "Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya Woh Jamyai Nai" left the audience spellbound with the theme and compelling performances of artists as well as the direction of Shri Arvind Gaur, Founder and Director of Asmita Theatre Group. The play was about the sufferings faced during the traumatic dislocation caused by partition, but highlighting the power of human generosity. The drama festival was successful in making the audience realise their roles in maintaining communal harmony and peaceful co-existence of all religions. Shri Asghar Wajahat, a famous playwright, and Shri Ramesh Chandra Gaur, Director of the National School of Drama, New Delhi, graced the drama festival. Ms. Saveree Sri Gaur, a senior artist, was awarded the Sarala Birla Award 2022 for her role in emancipatory theatre and movies. Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi also announced that performing artists will be eligible for a 50% scholarship to study business at BIMTECH.

The 35th Foundation Day was formally celebrated on October 2nd with the welcome of the Chief Guest, the ceremonial lamp lighting and furthering the true spirit of the Birla legacy and Gandhian ideology of building communities and social welfare.

Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH, delivered the welcome speech, in which he emphasised the remarkable development of the institute from a little basement in New Delhi to one of the top business schools. The Director brought forward how the institute has been working tirelessly towards raising awareness about ESG in both the corporate and academic worlds. The Director also thanked Shri. G.N. Bajpai for gracing the occasion with his presence and thanked him for delivering an address about an issue that holds great significance in today’s world.

Director Chaturvedi said, "During the last two years of the pandemic, we have witnessed a lot of pain, deaths, and unfortunate moments. In those troubling times, we recalled Gandhi Ji, who taught us to be empathetic towards the suffering of others.

The Chief Guest, Shri. G.N. Bajpai, Ex-Chairman, SEBI, and LIC, enlightened students about the importance of ESG in today’s world. He encouraged upcoming managers and business leaders to have a holistic and sustainable approach to conducting business. It was put forward by him that the world has moved on from reporting where the only interest was the top line and bottom line to holistic reporting where "shareholder return to stakeholder return’’ should be considered. He also quoted "Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah Sarve Santu Niraamayaah" as the motto for modern corporations. He mentioned that Gandhian ideology also shares a similar approach to social development. It was mentioned that the corporation needs to work on the intersection of our traditional values and modern principles. He also highlighted the urgency of the issue with the following statement: "The current generation of Homo sapiens is living through a cycle of unprecedented health, wealth, and quality of life, yet a vast portion of the population is below the poverty line, living without basic sanitation and electricity."

The BIMTECH management also conferred numerous honours in keeping with its illustrious tradition of fostering valuable contributions in education. In memory of the founder, BIMTECH conferred the Basant Kumar Birla Distinguished Scholar Award, 2021 to eminent researchers from private universities for their contribution to business research: Dr. Sachin Mangla, O.P. Jindal Global University, Haryana; Dr. Shalini Talwar, SPJMIR, Mumbai; and Dr. Rajesh K Singh, MDI, Gurgaon; a prize amounting to six lakhs.

The "Best Teacher" and "Best Researcher" awards (2021-22) were given to deserving professors of the institute. Several faculty and staff members were also felicitated for their devoted service spanning more than a decade.

The chief guest also released the Annual Activity Report 2022. Books titled "Women in Education and Work Life" and "Beyond the Beaten Path" authored by BIMTECH faculty were also released on this momentous occasion. The institute organised a traditional community feast for more than 1,000 people of all ages and statures, thus ingraining values of equity, inclusion, and social good.

The celebrations concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Anupam Varma, Deputy Director & Dean Academics, BIMTECH.

Some more quotations of our chief guest:

"Underlying principles of firms and management, perpetual success, and separation of management from ownership were the harbingers of growth and prosperity in India."

"The current generation of homosapiens is living through a cycle of unprecedented health, wealth, and quality of life, yet a vast portion of the population is below the poverty line, living without basic sanitation and electricity."

"Tomorrow’s technology is going to be different than what we use today, and we need to be prepared for that."

BIMTECH celebrates 35th COMMENCEMENT DAY to welcome PGDM 2022-24 batch

35th Commencement Day at BIMTECH

Date: June 21, 2022

“BIMTECH does not believe in resting, it keeps climbing and reaching newer heights”. These words of Dr. Ajit Ranade spoken during the 35th Commencement Day speech of PGDM Batch of 2022-24 at BIMTECH, Gr Noida purely resonated with the aura of the campus as it welcomed its PGDM 2022-24 batch after a hiatus of two years of offline campus life. The campus witnessed vibrancy and youthfulness all around as the new bunch of excited students along with their parents embraced new beginnings. To introduce them to the virtues and ethos of Birla legacy, the day started with piety. The campus reverberated with chants during yajna followed by soulful renditions of Hanuman Chalisa by Pandit Sujeet Ojha. Approximately 430 students registered in four PGDM programs including PGDM-Core, PGDM-International Business, PGDM- Insurance Business Management and PGDM-Retail Management.

A formal DEEKSHARAMBH ceremony followed in the evening of June 18, 2022. The commencement day ceremony kick-started at 6 p.m. with the quintessential BIMTECH tradition of Saraswati Vandana followed by a welcome address by Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH, who welcomed the new batch and enlightened them about the institute and its revolutionizing approach towards imparting education, recent milestones and the way forward.

In his welcome address Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director of BIMTECH proudly celebrated the rainbow of diversity that batch 2022-24 represents. He proudly said that “We want states of all regional cultures of India which is a rainbow for the whole world. A rainbow of diverse cultures of India.”

He further shared that “Our gender ratio in this batch has improved this time. It has 40 percent female and 60 male students. Approximately 16 percent of students are with quality work experience. This new batch consists of 57 students coming from commerce 21 from engineering backgrounds 20 percent from science and humanity. This is very affirmative from the diversity point of view and I would like to say that BIMTECH seriously believes in diversity.” While promising an enriching living and learning experience to students the Director also promised the parents we will care for your wards as well as you did. He further inspired the students to work hard and perform well as the placements are dependent on economic conditions and their own performances. He promised that faculty and ecosystem shall leave no stone unturned in making them high performers but they must utilize this support.

The Chief Guest on this occasion, Dr Ajit Ranade, Vice Chancellor, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics & Member BOG, BIMTECH in the 35th Commencement Address assured the new batch with his words “In domain of private sector management education, BIMTECH is in top 5. You have absolutely made the right choice. You should not be worried about placements. You are from the tiny minority that will do well.” He further motivated them by reiterating “Don’t let the packages discourage you. Don’t be anxious. You are from the cohort that will do very well. Bottom line is that economy is good however there are fiscal challenges but we have young demography.”

He also appreciated BIMTECH’s technology-oriented management curriculum which fits the future demands of the technology sector and the digital economy while speaking about his proud association with BIMTECH. An accomplished business leader with extensive experience in economic policy and development, he believes that “though the world economy is under uncertainty, but Indian economy is domestically driven. We have seen 101 unicorns in the country in 21-22. In 2022-2023- a triple amount of recruitment is expected. And that is where the opportunity lies for our youth.”

In a very inspiring address, the Guest of Honour Ms Bhavana Batra, Executive Director, Global People Programs Leader, S&P Global said that “In the world of work, there are possibilities and no one can say we have achieved everything, as we are rethinking what will it take to bring success. I suggest you to be buoyant and be open to opportunities. But these opportunities will not come as we expect them to. No matter how beautifully constructed a strategy maybe you need people who are bright and ready to work.” She further added “I believe Humans are not resources but Human capital is the biggest strength of the organization.”

While sharing the importance of face-to-face education and personality development, Ms Batra said “Online education can teach your theories, but classroom education will teach you life skills and help identify your own role models. Don’t just think about yourself but also think how you can co tribute to the ecosystem and participate in multiple extracurriculars. Get involved in inter-college and inter-university competitions. Debate. There is no better time to start giving back. It is about so much more than books.” She told the students to seek answers to questions like “If what you are doing was printed in the newspaper and was read by the world and your parents, will you be okay with it?” This may put them in the right path from the word go she opined.

The Deeksharambh ceremony also saw the unveiling of the annual activity reports of the Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development of Atal Incubation Centre of BIMTECH. The solemn occasion concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Anupam Varma, Deputy Director, BIMTECH followed by the National Anthem.

This is a time of significant change when no organization is sure of what is going to happen.

Covid has shaken how businesses happen. We have a diversified supply chain that is being disrupted. No single vendor is being depended upon.

In the world of work, there are possibilities and no one can say we have achieved everything as we are rethinking what will it take to make thing success and i suggest you to be buoyant and be open to opportunities. But these opportunities will not come as we expect them to.

No matter how beautifully constructed a strategy maybe you need people who are bright and ready to work.

I believe Humans are not resources but Human capital is the biggest strength of organization.

Expectations you should have

  1. How do you constantly learn? Some have experience some dont. But how do you use the opportunities and add value to yourself and ultimately be productive to org
  2. Relations will help you learn and give you comfort in difficult times. So leverage this opportunity to build stronger relationships. You can pick theory in online but here you pick up life skills. Faculty have spent years perfecting their craft and professional have experience
  3. Problem solving, in industry, we look for problem solvers. We look for people who have the ability to leverage different aspects of learning and offer options to problems.

Have a tangible takeaway in everything you do.

It will differentiate you in the industry and have well hone sPS skills.

Don’t just think about yourself but also think how you can co tribute to the ecosystem and participate in multiple extra-curriculars. Get involved in inter college and inter university competitions. Debate. There is no better time to start giving back. It is about so much more than books.

Invention is 93% perspiration, 6% inspiration and 1% butterscotch ripple- inspiring quote

Cannot achieve anything without perspiration and get your hands dirty. Better to fail fast than keep thinking about it.

Mantra is fail fast, do fail, move on and do next.

6% inspiration- can be anything. I cook when I am stressed out. Look for your inspiration in ways that makes sense to you.

1% butterscotch ripple

Have fun the journey.

If what you are doing was printed in newspaper and was read by the world and your parents, will you be okay with it?

In last 3-6 months, what have you done for the first time?

Have you started your journey towards what you are passionate about?
