Shubhangi Pant Admission Experience

Did you avail of the benefit of any reservation?

Shubhangi Pant: “General (No reservation).”

Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any)?

Shubhangi Pant: “The Group Discussion was offline and there were 8 students in a group. It wasn't like a typical group discussion but a ‘situation analysis’ kind of a discussion where a case was given and the group members were asked to discuss the same. There were 2 moderators who told everyone to not fight with each other and listen to everyone. So, we all had to write down our thoughts in one minute, the note for the same was submitted to the Moderators and then the discussion began.”

What was the WAT / GD Topic?

Shubhangi Pant: "Since it was a case study with various parameters, it was regarding what process will one follow if there is a sudden disaster when students are sitting in a classroom. There were some other options available like the resources available. It was also expected that we come out with some future plan to deal with such a situation."

What were your answer/points put forward for the WAT or GD respectively?

Shubhangi Pant: "I initiated the case discussion with what is being given and how we can segment out discussion so that we aren't creating chaos and moving in the right discussion. I also went with the importance of pre and post-disaster response and how drills help in coping with the gap and giving a sense of reality. I spoke a lot of times as the other members were not that much active in the group and it was overall a healthy discussion."

Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Shubhangi Pant: “There were two members involved in taking the interview, one was the faculty of SIBM and the other was from the industry/corporate sector. There were some questions regarding my UG specialization (Computer Science) and some other current affairs questions. They also asked me about my specialization preference and why being a fresher I want to pursue MBA. “Pro Tip: You should know your CV in and out, don't write something that you know nothing about. Don’t brag, read current news, revise your UG Subjects, be honest and you will sail through.”

Mention at least 5 interview questions that were asked to you and your responses to each of them.

Shubhangi Pant: "1: Why did you opt for an MBA course?

Ans: Having completed Btech in Computer Science, I got the foundation for a tech domain, and coming from a non-business family, I always found it difficult to understand even small concepts of business as that was something I had never touched.

In the last year of my graduation, after getting placement a little early, I utilized my time looking for future options. I analyzed my current situation and future scope and found that holistic learning that is imbibed in MBA will help me in bridging the gap that I have incurred and now that I am amalgamating tech and management, I don’t regret my firm decision of going for an MBA.

2: What is your dream company? Why?

Ans: My dream company will be the one that gives me the satisfaction of work, opportunity to grow from an organizational as well as a personal point of view. I don't have anyone's company in my mind as of now but will get to know about it in the coming time.

3: Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Ans: 5 years from now I see myself as a confident and independent woman working in a company and enriching my skill set. I will put my valuable learnings from the MBA course into practice and add meaningfully to the company.

4: Which functional division would you prefer and why?

Ans: I want to go for Marketing because it is a field that allows great scope for creativity and innovation. It is also not limited by a set of rules and regulations. Marketing also gives one a chance to explore multiple industries. There are so many interesting subdivisions in Marketing like Digital Marketing, Web design, Branding, etc because of which I want to choose it.

5: Describe one principle in life you not only firmly believe in but also practice.

Ans: Value what you have instead of complaining about what you don’t”. This is something that I wrote long back and I try to value whatever life has to offer because complaining never helps."

Mention 3 reasons why you chose this college over other colleges which you converted.

Shubhangi Pant: “The three reasons for choosing this college was it was located in Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru and the college has been growing since its inception. I checked various reports and asked current students about the same. The placement figures were good and there were extra-curricular activities/fests/outgoing activities that took my attention.”

What was the reason for you not converting other colleges? (if any)

Shubhangi Pant: "I almost converted to all the colleges I applied to. One of the colleges where I could not get in was due to the fact that though I got a ‘profile based call’ for that prestigious college my LR-DI marks were less than the required percentile and hence the interview got dropped. Otherwise, just go through your CV in and out and say “NO” if you don’t know the answer to any question asked in the interview, it will be alright."
