G.D Goenka University

Dr. Tabrez Ahmad is the Pro-Vice Chancellor at G.D Goenka University. He is a dynamic leader who believes the basic etiquette a student can learn is to form an attitude towards learning. He believes in exploring different verticals in order to grow in a better individual. Read here what he has to say in his interview.

How does the curriculum of GD Goenka ensure the best practice of industry?

“it is mandatory to have industry relevant skills for students to prosper”

We are industry-linked. Once we decide the pedagogy and curriculum, we always use the industry. We always try to match the industry requirements because there are currently many challenges. The market is changing rapidly. Thus, we analyze market trends and changes and try to incorporate all these changes in our curriculum. Once a student graduates from our university, we need to make sure that he/ she doesn’t feel a skill gap in their respective job. So we make sure that once a student graduates, he becomes a professional and is fully capable of serving in the industry. We try our level best to place students in various internships every year before they graduate. They should have a good idea of how the industry works, the work culture. So in this way, we ensure that we are completely synced up with the industry for the betterment of our students.

Any insights into how your Institute could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“Diversity brings broader perspectives and learning experiences”

We are the most prominent group in the country in an academic sense, as we have more than 80 schools in the country and one university in Gurgaon. We have more than 1 lac students under the GD Goenka group, which shows how we are so welcoming, how we are so open and tolerant about all kinds of religions, communities, tradition, and culture. All kinds of communities try to get the best kind of education and carve their way towards success to shine wherever they go after graduating from us. We have an experience of more than 25 years, we have grown from a single school to about 80 schools. Now we are a group where we take care of our students from the primary stage to a doctorate program, and then we have a great experience of how we can transform a student from an individual to a great Professional.

What do you think is GD goenkas, biggest or greatest strengths?

“Our experience working with industry professionals and experiential learning is our strength”

Our experience of more than 25 years of handling all kinds of students, students from 40 nationalities, not only Indian tradition, also take up students from different countries. So I think this is our greatest strength as we can provide holistic development to the students. We focus on holistic development, be it a skill, personality development, arts, fashion, etc. We can provide quality education and try to refine the skill excellently. We provide a campus where all the facilities are there, including a swimming pool, half the size of an Olympic swimming pool, and a riding club. They are scarce in the Indian education model. We have a campus of about 60 acres, which comprises all the facilities. So our strength is that we can refine a simple individual to a great Personality.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for GD Goenka specifically?

“There is a transformation happening at a rapid pace technologically”

Significant changes are happening globally. Adapting to the new technological advancements is a must. The market is changing rapidly, in every workplace, there are a lot of additional requirements, so the challenge is so coping up with the changing environment. Thus, we need to rapidly cope up with the changing environment keeping in mind the changes happening. We are a university that believes in syncing with the environment and changing accordingly. We need to transform ourselves accordingly. We need to assess which skills to choose to pertain to future aspects. We have to create future leaders for the country and the world. So the biggest challenge is finding out what are the market requirements for the future and preparing our curriculum accordingly so that a student is utterly employable after graduation.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your institute?

“I believe that an education institute is a noble place”

We have to ensure that everybody has free will to express their thoughts, their ideas. This way, we can create a balanced environment for everybody where the main focus would be on development. So we are a very open-minded, very transparent education institute. We have students from 40 nationalities, so it is our duty to ensure that everybody has autonomy in expressing their ideas and thoughts. We are very welcoming, and we are very tolerant because of which we were able to grow from 1 school to 80 schools in addition to being able to attract students from 40 different countries. Liberty is given to all the students. The market challenge is to get a job; sometimes, students focus on getting a degree and lose focus on being creative and innovative. In this way, we are successful as we have a diverse culture in our university, so many languages. We are growing, which itself is an indicator that we can maintain a healthy environment in our institute.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?

“Attitude decides the future outcomes of a person”

My suggestion to the current youth will be to not study for a job but inculcate the skills. Build a skill-set and try to become a good human being. Don’t try to copy others, try to develop character. It can’t be developed in a day so inculcate certain characteristics in your personality. I believe attitude decides altitude. If your attitude is not good even if you have a top class degree with you , you may not become successful in your career. I suggest all the students try to become a good human being and try being innovative. Innovation is the key to success. It will help in your daily life , whether you are working in your house, your class or your job. Being innovative is the key to success. Try to have a pursuit of excellence, if you achieve excellence then a good job will follow. Try to be creative, be innovative, become a good human being and keep working to acquire excellence.
