Dr. Sumit Kumar Pandey has been working as the Head of Mass and Media Communication Department at Mewar University, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. He has participated in various International and National seminars and has also directed a documentary film on Paryavaran Kumbh Varanasi. In addition to this, he has represented Varanasi in Youth Parliament and has won several awards from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs and NSS and Ministry of Information and Broadcast, Government of India. Represented Varanasi in Youth Parliament. As part of his academics, he has done Post Graduation Diploma in Electronic Media Management & Film Production and Master Degree in Mass Communication.

We have adopted the two-way teaching methodology to help our students understand the concepts in a deeper and clearer way. And in these methodologies, our faculty members focus on enhancing the practical learning and experience of students. In addition to this, teachers ensure their presence whenever students conduct experiments so that they can guide them whenever required. After this, we encourage our students to present their learning through assignments, charts and PowerPoint presentations.

How do you build a connection between your institute courses and industry demands?

We have been associated with various training partners to ensure best quality training programs for our students from 5th semester onwards. Also, the 6th semester in all these programs consist of rigourous and customized training and research programs. And we regularly invite industry experts and eminent leaders to have interactive sessions with us and educate our students in which areas they need to focus more. 

What challenges have you faced while inculcating these programs in your curriculum?

"Developing the course curriculum as per market requirements was a real challenge for us"

The most challenging thing for us while inculcating these Degree and Diploma courses in curriculum was to prepare a valuable and market oriented syllabus for which we had to consult with eminent industry experts and Academicians. But after all the struggle, we were successful in offering futuristic, skillful and market oriented courses to our students.

On what kinds of projects your students are currently working on under these courses?

"Our students are developing projects related to radio story, news reading, video based projects"

Our students are working on a wide variety of projects for print media using tools like MS-Word, MS-Excel, PPT, PageMaker, QuarkXPress and Photo Adobe based projects. And with respect to the Electronic Media, Radio Story, Radio Drama, Radio Talk, News Reading, Voice Articulation, Pronunciation, Headlines and Bulletins, Video Story, Package and Walkthrough etc. based projects are being developed by the students. In addition to this, short film based projects and documentaries are being developed and as far as PR and Advertising House is concerned, journal, print ad, radio ad, TV ad based projects are given to the students. We also assign specialization specific projects to students regularly and from 6th semester onwards.

What career options are available for students after pursuing courses from your college?

"Students after finishing their courses can work as a PR Officer and also in Film and Entertainment Industry"

As far as I have observed the outside world, a wide variety of job opportunities exist in the market if you are skilled enough. After successfully completing Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising programs, students can work in the corporate sector as well as in government organizations as a Public Relation Officer or Assistant Public Relation Officer. While, after completing Post Graduate Diploma in Film Production, our students can join the Film and Entertainment Industry. In addition to this, for students having Certificate in Photography Programs, Media Industry offers amazing working windows as it's been a demanding profession these days. Lastly, after completing National Education Policy based 4 years Graduation course and 2 years Post Graduation program, students can pursue a career in academia as an Assistant Professor.
