What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"To bring the best learning opportunities for them and provide my guidance whenever required"

My prime responsibility being the Head of the Computer Science Department is to ensure an effective learning environment for my students to help them excel in academics and in life as well. I am also accountable to provide my support and guidance to our students and faculty as and when required.

How do you establish a healthy relationship with the students and fellow faculty?

"By ensuring the ambiance of open but respectful communication"

To have a cordial relationship with everyone, I use a very simple yet effective mantra and that is to give respect and get respect. Whenever I connect with my fellow faculty and students, I make sure that they feel respected, heard and understood. And it's equally important for me that what kind of respect I give to others should be given to me as well.

How do you bring in a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

"By arranging events like seminars, workshops and discussion sessions for students"

We strive to make learning more engaging for our students. Hence we conduct events like seminars and workshops where industry professionals from reputed organizations are invited to share their experiences and expectations with us. And to enforce a practical learning approach, we assign different kinds of research-based projects to our students and also organize industry visits for them. From time to time, I arrange special sessions in the classroom to discuss new technologies and developments in the industry.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

"We input all stakeholders including Board of Studies members, industry experts and faculty to do it"

We do a rigorous analysis of industry requirements and students' needs while drafting and updating our curriculum because this activity demands the involvement of everyone. We also take inputs and suggestions from fellow faculty members, students and industry experts and after the final meeting with the Board of Studies, we include new programs in the curriculum. This exercise is done every 3-4 Years and in between as well if required.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

"We should give equal attention to both training programs and higher education"

I strongly believe that pursuing both internships and higher education is very important for our students as it prepares them for the corporate world. And I hope our programs continue to make our students ready to fulfill industry expectations.

How do you prepare your students to cope with this competitive world?

"By asking them not to compare themselves with anyone and providing positive guidance"

We always ask our students to do their best and not necessarily compare themselves with others as they all have their own unique strengths that will help them to pursue their passions and shine everywhere. And to instill this kind of confidence in our students and to give them the inner strength to tackle life challenges, we always provide every kind of possible support and guidance to them be it personal or professional.

Which extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of students?

"We have all kinds of activities like sports, music, dance, NSS, NCC and competitions for students"

Our college has different clubs that organize co-curricular activities, technical events and other programs to help other students develop, hone, and demonstrate their skills. And those activities range from NSS, and NCC (which help cultivate a sense of community) to sports, dance, and music events to develop the overall personality of our students. We have also organized business plan competitions in the past to hone students' entrepreneurial skills. All the above-mentioned activities are arranged on both inter and intra-college levels to promote the ambiance of healthy competition and networking.

Which challenges are you facing to uplift the education quality of your department?

"Making students focused towards practical learning is definitely a hurdle"

One of the major challenges for us is to shift students' focus from rote learning toward a practical understanding of concepts. Actually, whole mistakes are not theirs, they are taught from the start that scoring more marks is important rather than gaining knowledge. Hence being an educational institution, it's our responsibility to teach them that marks are not the only goal of receiving education, but practical knowledge is definitely the one.

What are the approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to teaching the students?

"We encourage our students to keep a curious attitude and focus on learning the latest technologies"

We conduct events like seminars, workshops and guest talks to directly expose our students to the corporate world and help them understand in which areas they need to focus more. We also encourage our students to keep a curious attitude both inside and outside the classroom. Lastly, our focus is to train our students on the latest technologies by leveraging these new technologies in our classroom environment.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students to have a prosperous career ahead?

"Keep learning new things, but one skill at a time"

I would like to advise my students that whatever you do, give your best every time. Also, remember that learning is a lifelong journey, so keep upgrading yourself and never take others' feedback in the wrong way. There will be times when you will be less competent in comparison to others, but this is how you will learn and grow.
