Dr. Piyush Bala has been working as an Assistant Professor of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, Ranchi, Jharkhand. She has done BA, MA and PhD from a reputed university as part of her academics. Prior to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, she worked as a Lecturer in an eminent college for 8 years. She is also the Guest Lecturer in many colleges of Ranchi.
Being a faculty officer of Dr. SPM University, what are your responsibilities towards the students?
"To inculcate good education, values and confidence in students"
My primary role is to educate our students for a particular subject and on the latest technologies. And to develop a curious and creative attitude in them is also my accountability. Because I think that students should not feel uncomfortable at any point of time while pursuing their dream courses with us. Apart from this, inculcating best ethical values in them and guiding them for their career and skill enhancement as and when required is also one of my main responsibilities.
How do you establish a healthy relationship with the students and fellow faculties?
"By regularly interacting with them on and off the classroom teaching"
I use a very simple mantra to maintain a healthy relationship with my students and that is I interact with them on a regular basis in and outside the classroom teaching. And I have also given them an ambiance where they can approach me easily, tell their issues by having full faith in me.
How do you bring in an industry driven and practical approach towards subjects?
"By improving communication and writing skills of students through supplementary lectures"
The main aim of our college is to enhance writing skills, public speaking skills and business management skills of our students. And various supplementary classes are organized too for students as and when required to add on to their knowledge.

How do you prepare your students to cope up with this competitive world?
"By motivating them to learn new things by coming out of comfort zone and complete assignments on time"
We keep encouraging our students to not compare their individuality with anyone as each of them are unique and have some built-in qualities. And we also ask them to keep revising their subject syllabus by reading more books. Regular assignments are assigned to them to implement what they understand in lectures and we ask them to try different things by coming out of their comfort zone. Because once you will have in-depth knowledge and practical exposure on a particular subject, you can face this competitive world with more courage and confidence.
Which benefits are there in college to enhance the skills of students?
"We have a great library to fulfill academic needs of students in addition to academic competitions"
We have established an amazing library in our college to assist students academically by offering a wide range of textbooks, reference books, research papers etc. And the ambiance of this library is very soothing, calm and hence students can sit here and study with full peace. In addition to this, elocutions competition, essay competition etc. are regularly conducted by us to improve the communication, reading and pronunciation skills of students.
When you joined the SPM University, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve it?
"It was to work dedicatedly for the development of institution and students"
Because I love educating my dear students and youths of our society, hence when I joined Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, my aim at that time was to provide the finest quality education and amenities to students and give them an ambiance where they themselves can grow and help others to grow.
How does your university enhance the faculty skills and prepare them as per industry standard?
"Through guest sessions to give them an overview of in which areas they need to focus more"
Our college organizes special guest lectures for faculty members where eminent personalities and industry experts are invited to have a fruitful interaction with us. In addition to this, our professors also give sessions in other institutions also, so it's kind of like learning while you teach the kind of approach that we generally follow in our college.

"Be a good human first, rest skills you can acquire easily over time"
The best advice that I would like to give to my students is to be a good human being, be your own self and don't let others' opinions destroy you. Also help others to grow while you are learning and exploring yourself. Having good skills which are in demand in industry will help you to get your dream, will make your lifestyle better but being a good human being will give you true success, happiness and satisfaction in life.
