Prof. Shashi Singh is working as a Professor at the School of Biosciences and Bioengineering at D. Y. Patil International University. She did her PhD from University of Delhi. Her areas of interest are Stem cells and Tissue Engineering. She has published a total of 85 papers and her teaching subjects include Tissue engineering/Cell biology.

“Dedication to improve society through educating students”

I get to learn so much while teaching. You start training kids to think of everything in terms of innovation, solving problems and taking up learning/teaching a notch higher. It’s an amazing feeling to see the kids get involved, and be eager to do things on their own.


What is your philosophy of leadership? 

“I focus on whole team development along with mine”

The idea of leadership for me is allowing people to take lead and learn new things on their own. Just enable and empower them, they flourish. It is the same attitude we empower our students with.


How do you strategize the key plans for the marketing and administration of your college?

“By ensuring our social presence in best possible way”

We begin with identifying the main goals of the Institute and of the students. For this social presence is a key requirement along with providing the best education, social presence and We then prioritize and execute the goals by acquiring the right resources.

How can students benefit from studying in your institute?

We have adopted a totally different approach to teach students. We organize year-round competitions such as Debates, Group Discussions, PowerPoint Presentations, Essay writing, etc. to help them to enhance and improve their confidence, reading, writing and Communication Skills. Necessary guidance is provided by the faculty members about various entrepreneurship encouragement schemes declared by the state and central government to help the budding Entrepreneurs of the University.

“Curriculum is designed after taking suggestions from industry experts”

The students are trained in the basic background of their fields to touch upon the existing problems and current ways of industry working. The interdisciplinary nature of courses offered here make them future ready. For all this we conduct seminars and guest lectures where experts from industry provide their views about what industry is exactly expecting from students.

“We offer fee waiver to eligible students and any discrimination is strictly prohibited here”

We value diversity in our admission process and best-in-class faculty, infrastructure, values and best practices. Regarding economic background, being a private University we have constraints in offering solutions. What are your roles and responsibilities for the institute and the students?

My accountability towards the students is obviously to teach well and enable them to take up any challenges. I give my best to help mold themselves as torch bearers for the society at large and be well established in what-ever field they choose to excel. Towards institute my responsibility would be to help it to reach new heights in upcoming years.


What is the institute's top priority over the next 10 years?

“To update itself with the changing demands of industry”

For 10 years, I should say University’s top priority is to update facilities and students to keep a proper pace with the Technology. We have to be dynamic about the courses we plan to offer to students.

I joined here because I saw it was a happening place, I have been here for 8 months only, its surely is changing in many ways, we have more recruitments, more facilities, more synergy, more activities going on.
