Dr. Subhasish Chatterjee is Principal and HOD at Sumandeep Vidhyapeeth-Department of Management, Gujarat. He has completed a PhD under the faculty of Social Science Sociology followed by Post graduate in Sociology with Personnel Management, Industrial Relation and labor welfare and also completed Master Program in Business Administration certification (Specialization with Health and Hospital Management and Human Resource Management). He has 30 years of rich experience in delivering optimal results & business value in high-growth environments in Academic Administration, Research, Training and Teaching. He has published approximately 50 research papers and has written an internationally recognized book ‘Globalization and its impact on Indian Culture’.

What are your roles and responsibilities?

“Manage the programs, help faculty, and maintain proper records”

Developing an organizational culture by promoting academic excellence is a prime duty. Moreover, establish a purposeful relationship and encourage academic activities. Other roles manage the programs, help faculty in planning, maintain the records, identify upcoming developments, and conduct regular meetings. Identifying the unique leadership capabilities of teachers and others is vital. Serving as an instructional coach is my crucial responsibility. 


What are the factors that connect you with the education sector?

“Teaching connects with students and the education sector”

My passion is teaching. I have been associated with the education sector for many years. As an educator, I keep upskilling and learning the current trends. The satisfaction and sense of achievement which I see on the face of students gives me motivation. It connects with the education sector. 


What is your philosophy of leadership?

“Excellent communication and elimination of mistakes”

I believe in participative leadership. The views of all stakeholders are taken into consideration. I believe that as a leader effective communication led to smooth conduct in an organization. I always try to delegate tasks to whoever performs well. Moreover, I try to communicate about the needs. This eliminates mistakes. It is necessary to communicate at the beginning of any task. Hence, it aids in saving time and making work more productive.


How do you strategize plans for the marketing and administration of the Institute? 

“Systematic process that views rights of every stakeholder”

The solid Program by delivery system led to the success of an institute. Our campus follows a systematic process for a smooth administration. It consists of the views, rights, and liabilities of every stakeholder. The members feel a sense of closeness as their views are considered in strategy making.

Our priority is to be the Centre of Excellence in Higher Education, Health Education, Health Care Services, and Research & Innovation. To develop Health Care Professionals of Global Competence and Center of Excellence in the area of Evidence-Based Education is necessary. Moreover, facilitating participatory and holistic approaches in courses of higher education is vital. We are collaborating with innovative organizations and agencies. Furthermore, focus on innovation and start-ups in Healthcare to become a prominent institute in Healthcare Specialization.


What is your vision for Sumandeep Vidyapeeth?

“Develop new infrastructure, curriculum and unites all members in the campus”

My vision is to develop the infrastructure of a computer lab and new curriculum based on the current demand. Moreover, a separate placement cell is essential to achieving 100 percent placement. The unification of stakeholders' parents, students, faculty, and guest members from the industry is necessary. I want to motivate faculties to reach for academic excellence and raise the research activities.


What is the greatest strength of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth? 

“Strong association with industry and remembering objectives of the department”

We developed a strong association with the industry, research, and consultancy establishments. Moreover, we ask faculty and staff to understand and remember the objects of the department. It aims to improve the strengths of the department. Strong industry support is necessary. 


What are the challenges you see for higher education and Sumandeep Vidyapeeth? 

“Shortage of faculty and skill development in the campus”

I believe that Higher Education in India has come a long way since independence. The greatest challenge facing education is the chronic shortage of faculty. An average of thirty to forty percent of faculty positions are unfilled. Most faculty lack quality in teaching, research, and training. Other issues are skills development, few opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, lack of early-stage research, and ineffective quality assurance system. 


What are the plans for designing for Sumandeep Vidyapeeth international affairs to students? 

“Focus on making the University a global level”

Our curriculum is designed with the global scenario. At the university level, we focus on making our university more global in direction. We have taken multiple steps such as MOU’s with International Organisations, Bodies, and Institutes. Moreover, coordination with officials for smooth conduct of International students.

How do you establish a healthy relation with students and faculty?

“Build trust, confidence, and maintain good relations”

We believe in the principles to maintain a healthy environment in our Institute. One of these is building confidence and trust inside the campus. It led to good relations. The focus on innovation, active participation, and equality are vital parts. These practices help us to create a healthy environment in the institute.

My primary suggestion for students is to accept a vision and mission. It is vital to accept challenges and believe in yourself. Moreover, the building of a good network helps a lot. Take calculated risks and take action for your thoughts.
