Prof. Rahul Sharma is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management Sumandeep Vidyapeeth, Vadodara. He has done MBA in Marketing and gained 15 years of work experience in different fields. Prof. Rahul Sharma has conducted several workshops on Biostatistics, Data Analysis using SPSS, MYSTAT. He has attended several Workshops, Seminars and Conferences Nationally and Published Research Papers in International Journals and in Conferences.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students? 

“To provide them best education”

In my opinion, the most important duties for me as a faculty consist of effective classroom teaching and counseling of students’ whenever required. I take an endeavor for the constant improvement of the curriculum through appraisal and evaluation, practical and functional research, or intellectual doings for the progression of students.


How do you ensure healthy relations with the students and colleagues?

“By ensuring a flexible environment to communicate”

I always listen to everyone seriously and offer help to both my students or fellow faculties be it academic issues or any personal help. I keep a friendly nature in the classroom by creating an environment when students can open up about their issues without any hesitation. 


What is your approach to make a subject more practical and industry oriented? 

“We take suggestions from industry experts while preparing curriculum”

To ensure best practices of industries are being followed, we invite elegant people from the industry to conduct workshops on a regular basis, where they discuss current industry demand and approaches we should take to achieve them. Also students are encouraged to do project work with many different companies that makes them competent to join the industry.


What best practices are offered to the students by department to help them gain necessary skills? 

“Through case-based learning and project implementation of real time issues”

We follow the following process to help students gain necessary skills. It is mandatory for them to do Industrial project work on a routine basis. We have initiated the early career planning program to ensure overall personality development of students.

How do you strategize the curriculum to make it befitting for the students? 

By incorporating skills and assessments which companies seeks during interviews” 

Our first aim is to figure out the needs of the industry. That is why we keep on taking the feedback from guest faculty, industrial experts, students, and parents. We also ensure the resources, the interest of learners’, teachers' interests, details of course curriculum etc.


What are the placement statistics of your college? 

“We provide 100% placement assurance to students”

The Placement Cell functions throughout the year to assist to develop collaboration between the organizations and students and for that we provide immense opportunities for placement by inviting a good number of companies. Routine project/academic presentation of the students and Being proficient in academic reading skills is a significant practice which we generally follow to prepare students.


How do you prepare your students to cope up with the competitive world?

“By encouraging them to implement what they learn”

We always keep on evaluating their information accuracy by creating a culture of cheerleading and good sportsmanship to prepare our students to survive in this competitive world.


Which extracurricular activities are conducted in college to enhance the skills of students?

“We conduct academic as well as cultural activities”

Our college organizes a lot of extracurricular activities that can help students to grow personally as well as professionally.

  • Students participate in various debate competitions not only at the college or university level and on the district and state levels. We also organize volunteering and Service-Related Activities.
  • We sponsor various festivals, concerts, lectures that encourage multicultural awareness on campus to encourage students in participating and learning.

What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?

“Incorporating industry requirements in skills of our professors to deliver education”

The challenges that we face sometimes are acquiring quality teachers for successful achievement of academic programs of the department. We have appointed a review committee in order to review the departmental academic activities and subsequently apply their recommendations after due consideration.


What was your vision when you joined this college and how are you trying to achieve that?

“My vision is to increase the business value of college”

To achieve my aim, I have developed followings till date:

  • Developed infrastructure inclusive of new computer lab by installing updated computer, separate research and innovative soft skills lab. 
  • Developed new curriculum, based on the current industry demands
  • Developed a separate placement cell and consistently achieved 100 percent placement. 
  • United all the stakeholders’ parents, students, and faculty and various guest members from industry and academics to get the authentic feedback by consulting with them.

How does the curriculum of your department incorporate the industry practices and demands?

“We take feedback from industry experts and teachers to prepare curriculum”

Teachers of different subjects identify the gaps in the curriculum and disseminate them to the board of studies for modification. We also take suggestions from higher officials of various organizations to understand what they exactly expect us to deliver. Our curricula take account of feedback concerning the course followed by recent course reviews.

How does the college train their faculties as per the industry standards?

“By providing abundant learning opportunities”

We keep on encouraging our faculties to participate in the industrial seminar, industrial projects and ‘Faculty Development Programs’ especially in the emerging areas on the industrial perspective for upgrading their knowledge.


What do you see as your college’s greatest strengths? 

“Our teaching, non-teaching staff and students are our greatest strengths”

Because our teachers contribute most to deliver the best education to our students. Hence they are our first pillar of strength, also many of our students are placed in top organizations which increases business value of our college, hence they are our strength too. Last but not the least, our non-teaching staff who help us in the maintenance of our college.


What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead? 

“Be passionate towards your dreams and learn something everyday”

There is no substitute for hard work. You have to face many challenges while on the way to building your career. Do not wait for the opportunity to come; try to create the opportunity on your own.
