Prerna Nishant Joshi is designated as the Dean of Mod’Art International, Mumbai. Her education qualifications include B.Com. and M.Com. Having an extensive industry and academic exposure, Ms. Joshi has also worked for various organizations namely 3 Palms Hotels & Resorts India and Lokko Sports Pvt. Ltd.

In an exclusive interview with Collegedunia.com, Ms. Prerna shares her views on the education and fashion industry. 

Experience in Education Industry

Education plays a vital role in the acquisition of knowledge and skills. It makes a strong impact on the development of an individual. The sector, however, offers many opportunities for professionalization at a variety of experience levels. We, as an educationist, are concerned with preserving the integrity of academic institutions and maintaining the wellbeing of the fashion education sector. 

Ms. Joshi has a far-sighted leadership philosophy

“Your beliefs don’t make you a better person, your philosophy does”. It is not only what we say, but also what we do that matters. 

As a leader, I analyse and measure each individual’s strength. This step not only helps me to increase the productivity or output of the task assigned but it also gives them a feeling of accomplishment.

Challenges faced as a Dean

As a Dean, I function quite different from the way faculties operate. I deal with various distinct and disparate issues jointly. My position requires a great deal of time dealing with faculty – who when tenured are not subject to hiring/firing/disciplinary/reward practices. There are times when difficult decisions need to be made, every decision might upset someone. Therefore, it is necessary to bring stability among the management and the students.

We inspire to educate and create professionals in the field of fashion design by providing academic excellence through a well-drafted curriculum. We aim to nurture the inherent talents of the students by providing a skill-based fashion designing and practical learning environment. The programs we offer are practical, hands-on and industry focused. 

We teach students to design such apparel to meet the expectations of constantly evolving trends. The institute offers pragmatic courses in Illustration, Draping, Design Principles, Textiles, Couture Sewing, Manufacturing, and many more.

With intense courses, we also provide career support to our students by advising them on job openings, organizing recruitment events and providing work placements. Upcoming goals for the Institute

My ultimate goal for the aspiring students of Mod’Art International is to spread Indian fashion trends and sense internationally. With this, we aim to make our Institute’s name more popular and reach global level.

Suggestions to young generations

Students are blessed with a streak which is innovative and unique. Having said that, my only suggestion to them is to choose their career wisely. They have the liberty to decide and direct their own wave.
