Dr.Nishant Raj Chourasia is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Rishiraj College of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Bhopal. He is an integral part of the college. He has vast teaching experience and is an eminent postgraduate teacher and guide. With an MDS in oral & maxillofacial surgery & fellowship course in implantology, he has many national and international publications to his credit. He has held key positions in IDA, Bhopal, and also serves as Editor for both AOMSI MP state Publications and Journal of IDA MP state.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Guiding the students in achieving their academic goals via excellent mentorship”

It has been more than a decade that I have been associated with such a prestigious institute and have held key positions. I feel that the education sector has huge potential for nurturing and grooming the youth of every generation. As we all know the young generation has tremendous potential in them, hence it is always a challenge in guiding them, teaching them, and helping them in shaping their career as per their potential.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Giving due credit, to those who helped achieve the vision of success”

To achieve any task, I always try to create a team of like-minded and positive individuals. I thoroughly believe that “Leadership is the practice and art of motivating a group of people to pursue and act accordingly, in achieving a common goal”. Behind every success, there is a hardworking and selfless team and thus it is the duty and responsibility of a leader to give the credit to the entire team. I always try to refrain myself from uttering “I did it” instead for me it is always “we did it and let’s do it again”.

Any insights into how your institute practices inclusivity towards a variety of students?

“Tuition fees scholarships for economically weaker background students”

In our institute, we do have students from various economic backgrounds and almost all the regions of our country. Without any socioeconomic or regional bias, we provide a very healthy atmosphere and equal attention to all the students. In fact, we also provide scholarships to the students of weak economic backgrounds and sub-sects of society, under government education schemes. Partial to full tuition fees can be reimbursed through such provisions.

What do you think should be the institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Wide expansion with student exchange programs & an international presence”

In the next 10 years, we are sincerely looking forward to growing our institute in such a way that it becomes one of the finest names at the national and international level. We are planning further expansion to incorporate all the innovations which makes one the best institute. For that, we have planned our strategies accordingly. We are also working on tie-ups with some prestigious foreign universities so that soon we can start a student exchange program for mutual benefit. 

What is your vision for the institute?

“To become a trusted name in the field of Dental education with UG & PG courses”

We started with a BDS undergraduate institute with 100 seats with the affiliation of the Dental Council of India. But due to a grand vision, strategic planning, trust & support of our respected Management, today we are a recognized institute by the Dental Council of India, Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, and Barkatullah University. We are now a Postgraduate institute. We have a postgraduate Master in Dental Surgery in 8 specialties of Dentistry. Many batches of our MDS specialists have passed out with flying colors. Our infrastructure has developed manifolds since its inception. 

What do you see as Rishiraj Dental College’s greatest strengths?

“Our management, faculties, non-teaching staff, & students, all are our strengths” 

We have a dedicated team of faculty who are constantly inspired, supported, and motivated by our ever approachable management. The positive words of appreciation by our students and their parents keep us motivated always. The quality of work our students are doing after passing out of our institute is quite remarkable. 

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Wisdom is not a product of schooling but an attempt of lifelong learning”

Choose and shape your career wisely. Thoroughly analyze how you would like to look once you finish your higher studies. Never disregard your roots. What you are today and whatever you will be in the future, is due to dedicated hard work. The lessons imparted to you by your parents, teachers, and others must never be forgotten. Never stop learning.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relation and environment in your institute?

“Healthy participation in extracurricular activities for a balanced academic life”

Our management always tries to create a very positive and healthy environment for students and staff. Instead of criticizing the students for shortcomings, we try to resolve their grievances via open communication. Apart from studies, we keep on organizing sports and cultural meets at regular intervals. Staff and students all participate in such activities. It helps in establishing a friendly and healthy rapport between everyone.
