B.Com from Indira Gandhi National Open University

IGNOU B.Com has three different type of courses. 

  • Foundation course (24 Credits)
  • Elective courses (not >48 credits)
  • Application Oriented courses (16 or 8)

In the first year, it’s better to take 16 credits from Foundation Courses, 8 credits from Elective courses in Commerce, and 8 credits of other elective courses.

In the second year take 8 credits from Foundation courses and 24 credits from Elective courses of Commerce. 

In the final year, take 16 credits of Elective Commerce courses and 8-16 credits of Application-Oriented courses, From other elective courses take 8 credits.

Here are the four B.Com courses available at IGNOU School of Management Studies (SOMS).

  • BCom General (BCOMG)

  • BCom with Major in Accountancy and Finance (BCOMAF)

  • BCom with Major in Corporate Affairs and Administration (BCom(CA&A))

  • BCom with Major in Financial and Cost Accounting (BCom(F&CA))

Course Structure (BCOMG):

  • Full Program Fee: Rs. 8,100/-

  • Admission Start Date: January and July of each year

  • Admission Last Date: January Admission: 31st December | July Admission: 30th June

  • Duration: Minimum 3 years | Maximum 6 years

Eligibility:

  • Students with a 10+2 Certificate can apply for the course.

  • Non 10+2 Certificate holders can present a completed Bachelors Preparatory Programme (BPP) from IGNOU.

Category of Course:

Students enrolling for B.Com are required to select courses through the following categories.

  • Core Courses (CCs): There are 12 courses, added in the first four semesters of the program.

  • Discipline-Specific Electives (DSEs): Specific Elective courses can be taken in the fifth and sixth semesters.

  • Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses: In the first and second-semester Ability enhancing courses can be taken by the students.

  • Skill Enhancement Courses (SECs): Ability enhancement can be chosen third-semester onwards.

  • Genetic Electives (GEs): Students can take Interdisciplinary courses in the fifth and sixth semesters.
