Applicants need at least 60% aggregate marks in 10+2, in order to get admission at NIT Trichy. This is the prerequisite for applying.

For final admission, students are shortlisted based on their JEE Main rank. NIT Trichy cutoff depends on several factors, such as branch, domicile, student category, competition, etc. The required cutoff for CSE and ECE is relatively higher, as most students opt for these branches. In 2021, the closing cutoff for CSE was 793.

Getting admission at NIT Trichy depends on your rank, category, the program you are choosing, and whether you are local or non-local. If you are a non-local OC student having a JEE Main rank in the top 1000 should get you your desired batch.

Here is the branch-wise closing cutoff for 2021.

Course  Cutoff
Architecture  262-586
Chemical Engineering  9996-14501
Civil Engineering  386-16034
Computer Science and Engineering  1-714
Electrical and Electronics Engineering  2608-6417
Electronics and Communication Engineering  1713-3105
Instrumentation and Control Engineering  8597-14372
Mechanical Engineering  5469-9035
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering  13562-20612
Production Engineering  14379-22732

In my opinion, you should focus on the journey more than worrying about the outcome of your results. To answer your question, there are no specific grades or marks that will secure your admission to any college, to be honest. As far as NIITs and IITs are concerned, seat allotment is on the basis of percentile. Hence, you should look into the percentile more than the marks you need to secure.

Your admission will also depend on what rank you secure, whether you are a local or non-local and also what category you belong to. From what I have heard, candidates are mainly allotted seats based on the JEE mains rank. There are basically seven rounds of counseling and other special rounds that are exclusively created for NIITians, Now as far as percentiles are concerned, here is what should help you out:

  • For General category, secure a percentile higher than 97.
  • For OBC, you will have to secure a percentile higher than 96.2.
  • For SC, the sufficient percentile should be greater than 90.
  • Lastly, if you are from ST, a sufficient percentile would be greater than 85.

If you are concerned about other factors, like the specifics of closing ranks at NIT Trichy, my suggestion would be to keep tabs on the JEE Mains rank cut-off. You should also check the cut-off ranks for the previous years which should help you gain a general idea of what to expect and how much you should score.

The cutoffs also vary from branch to branch. The table below should help you out with this:

Computer Science and Engineering

1373

Electronics and Communication Engineering

3019
