I have scored 85% in my 10th board and 77% in the 12th board. Is it possible for me to get admission in IIM Bangalore or in any IIM college if I score good in the CAT?

Honestly speaking, your academic record is average and even a very high percentile might not necessarily be enough to get a call for admission.

IIM Bangalore especially focuses a lot on Past Academics. In the initial shortlisting, the 12th and 10th marks are given 15% weightage each which combined is quite a lot. During the final shortlisting, 10th and 12th marks are given 10% weightage each. So the only thing you can do is

  • Work really hard and score a very high CAT percentile, something around 99.5+
  • Target other IIMs
  • Performance during the Personal Interview

You can go for other top B Schools like FMS and XLRI who give very little importance to past academics.

The required CAT cutoff for IIM Bangalore is 85. Although the final cutoff stays around 99 percentile for general category students. So, try to score around 99 percentile. IIM Bangalore puts emphasis on past academics and relevant work experience (4-5 years).

If you manage to score around 99 percentile in CAT, you can expect calls from other reputed IIMs as well.

IIM Bangalore focuses on past academic performances and your good work experience. If your score is more than 99.99 percentile in CAT examination, then other IIMs will give you a call. The admission will depend upon your performance in WAT and personal interview.

IIM Bangalore has released its cutoff for 2021, which is 85 for General category students. Here is the detailed cutoff information for the institute.

Category VARC DILR QA Reservation (%)
General 80 75 75 85
NC OBC 75 65 65 75
EWS 70 65 65 75
SC 65 60 60 70
ST 55 55 55 65
PWD 50 50 50 60

Try to score more than 98 percentiles in the CAT examination, to be safe.
