ISI Kolkata does not provide a B.Math program. The majority of B.Stat students return for M.Stat while some people join CMI, TIFR, IIM, and other such organizations.
M.Stat employees earn an average of 16–17 LPA, and many of them attend prestigious US graduate institutions. There are no fees for the entire program, and a stipend is provided. So, if you're looking for a career here, your future is bright.
BSc course at Christ University is pretty good. The university offers good exposure to students. It has good infrastructure and facilities. The classrooms are spacious and have all the required amenities. The campus is wifi enabled.
The course curriculum of BSc at Christ is very helpful to clear various post-graduation entrances. The faculties are well-experienced in their respective fields.
Here is a brief course highlight.
Course Fee range | INR 1.40 lakh-3.05 lakh |
Number of recruiting companies | 244 |
Job roles offered | Technical Writer, Quality Control Manager, Scientific Assistant, Lab Chemist |
Top recruiting companies | Google, IBM, Yahoo |
Christ offers an excellent campus experience. Various events and festivals are organized throughout the academic year.
As you can see, both these courses are incredibly different, even if you just base it on their names.
Data science will need some knowledge of computer science but it does not completely entail computer science. It will also need you to know about machine learning, statistics, and mathematics.
Both these subjects are vastly different. With the increasing need for data scientists around the world, institutes have been compelled to provide this course be it online or offline.
My advice to you would be to do your research before you decide to enroll in either of these courses.
Life at ISI Kolkata isn’t similar to that of other typical colleges, where you can bunk classes, mug up concepts right before the examination, and score passing grades. It maintains a high standard of academics. The curriculum and course work is extremely grueling. Many students find it difficult to even score passing marks in some courses. ISI doesn’t give any option to retake a course. Many students take admission at ISI for the free-of-cost world-class education, it offers. This is not a good motivation for choosing the institute. Choose ISI Kolkata B.Stat, only if you are interested in the course.
Biotechnology from Manipal University provides you with knowledge about the development in the area of Biotechnology with respect to industry, agriculture, and medicine.
My brother who graduated from Manipal University claims that the placement opportunities at this university are insane. You can see a well-maintained team that arranges employment opportunities with their excellent links with the good industries. The director keeps his eye on the work of the institution and this, as a result, helps the students to avail maximum benefits.
There are a handful of career opportunities after doing the Biotechnology course, which includes - working for TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and many great MNCs or working for the industries based on biotechnology such as Nicholas Pirimal ltd, Philips HealthCare, Biocon, etc.
You could go for research in biofuels, environmental biotechnology, process industry, industrial biotechnology, etc.
ISI Kolkata is considered to be a good institute for B.Stats. It accepts admission purely on the basis of the entrance exam and the interview. The minimum eligibility criteria for the entrance is 70% in class 12th boards.
The selection process will be finalized upon your performance in the entrance exam and the interview session. With this score, you will be able to pass through the cutoff but you must have an exemplary performance during the interview session.
Taking a course at IIT is just as difficult and demanding as pursuing a B.Stat course at ISI. They are whatever you choose to do with your life, whether you like mathematics/statistics enough to spend three years learning statistics (and a little math) and statistics solely at ISI, or you believe you are skilled in another subject that has a good course at one of the numerous IITs.
It depends totally on where you want to be. Furthermore, even if you prepare for college X, there is no guarantee that you will be accepted. As a result, keeping colleges Y and Z in mind as a backup is always a good idea.
Only you can decide which option is preferable for you and what you want.
My brother appeared for the interview last year, so I think I can answer your question.
The panelists will evaluate your ability to explain new questions. They might even ask you to solve the questions on the board. You must be clear about your choice of ISI Kolkata as you will be asked the reason for the same during the interview.
Expect questions on topics such as Calculus, Geometry, Combinatorics, and Probability. Keep your basics clear, know the definitions, and practice solving problems based on the definitions.
Just keep practicing, be confident and give your best shot at the interview.
ISI Kolkata B.Stat can be an ideal fit for you, if you are interested in Mathematics and Statistics.
However, in terms of placements, doing just a B.Stat isn’t enough. Recruiting companies rarely employ students with just a B.Stat degree. If you want good placement packages do an M.Stat from ISI or a foreign university. After completing M.Stat, students usually receive an average CTC of around INR 19 LPA.
The B.Sc Economics course offered by the Sarla Anil Modi School of Economics of the NMIMS Mumbai is great and will be a wonderful experience if you factor out the cost of the course.
Academics:
Fees:
So even if you take the lower amount, you will need close to INR 18 lakhs to INR 20 lakhs for the whole 3 years of the undergraduate program.
Placements:
Here are the placement stats released by the department for the batch of 2016-19.
The experience is really good, but choose the institute only if you are willing to pay the huge fees for your undergraduate.
