XLRI - A Way of Living Life

Remarks :

Candidates need to appear for the XAT examination in order to get admission to XLRI. XAT exam consists of QA, DM, and VA as its sections in Paper-1. Also, it has GK and Essay in Paper-2. Candidates need to clear the sectional as well as the overall cut-off for both BM and HRM programs. The application form is available on the XLRI website and any person pursuing graduation is eligible for the examination. There is no reservation in XAT. The only segregation between candidates is made on the basis of gender and degree. The GK and Essay Writing is not considered while calculating the xat percentile. Post this, candidates are shortlisted for the PI process where candidates need to give separate interviews for BM and HRM programs.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose the HRM program because XLRI's HR program is the best in India and Asia-Pacific region apart from having an inclination toward HR as a career. The cases that are being taught here are from Harvard University. Each subject consists of Quiz, Mid-Term, and End-Term, along with assignments and projects. The faculties are very brilliant in their field and also have unique teaching styles. Some of the faculties served as consultants to some of the big organizations in the country. They keep themselves as well as students aware of the current market scenarios so that students can do better in their careers post their studies. If a student indulges in the daily study then it is not difficult to pass the exams. Also, the faculties focus more on the implementation of concepts rather than the concepts in the exams.

Internships Opportunities :

Almost all the top companies in India like HUL, Mckinsey, BCG, Bain, ITC, etc. come for the summer internship. They provide roles like S&M, Finance, HR, Operations, etc. The average stipend was 1.54 lacs per month.

Placement Experience :

The placement of XLRI is considered among the top placements in the country. This year the average package for final placement went up to 32.7 lacs per annum. International offers are also being made for final placement with the highest package going up to 1.1 cr. Various roles like consulting, finance, marketing, operations, HR, etc. are being offered by recruiting companies.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee structure of both programs is equal with a total of 25 lacs for both years (12.5 lacs each). Even though the course fee is high compared to other B-Schools but the quality of education provided here covers the high fees. Also, there are many scholarship programs like MAF Scholarship, IDFC First Bank MBA Scholarship, HUL T-Thomas Scholarship, etc. Also, the campus provides campus jobs with an average salary of 32.7 lacs per annum.

Campus Life :

XLRI campus life is a roller-coaster ride. The hostels are well furnished with study tables, wardrobes, etc. There are many clubs that the students can join as per their interests or hobbies. The clubs are divided into Functional, Co-Curricular, Extra-Curricular, and Interest Groups. XLRI boasts about its state-of-the-art infrastructure including the library which contains both digital and physical copies of the books along with two Learning Centres where classes are being held. Each class have proper amenities like Projectors, central AC, etc. to help in the proper conduction of classes.

Hostel Facilities :

There are five hostels for the PGDM and FPM programs and studio hostels for the GMP program. Each floor has multiple bathrooms which are cleaned daily to maintain hygiene. The mess is common for all with varying dishes being provided in each meal every day. Each room consists of a study table, bed, wardrobe, mirror, and electrical equipment like a fan and lights. Each hostel room is provided with campus-wide network facilities

Interview Experience :

Only PI was considered during my admission process. Prior to that shortlisted candidates have to write SOP and some behavioural questions prior to interviews which will be referred to by the panellists during the interviews. Most of my questions during my interview were based on the answers I provided for these questions. Whereas in the HRM interview, the panellists asked questions about the HR policies of my work organization and questions about my hobbies. For the HRM interview, candidates should prepare for Why MBA in HR questions along with the latest trends following in the world of HR. Also, candidates must prepare for behavioural questions which they can easily find on the internet.

The placements and internship opportunities are excellent here. After three months you get the summer internship and after the internship, some 50% get pre-placement offers and the rest are placed in their 5th semester. There is no one left behind without placements.

Placement Experience:

Being one of India's oldest and premier B-schools, placements at XLRI are top-notch and rival that of IIM-ABC. The average median placement figure stood at Rs. 30 lahks for the batch 2020-22. A total of 99 companies visited the campus and 437 domestic offers were made. The highest placement was Rs.60 lakh. The placement rate for the batch was 100%. Firms like BCG, Bain, McKinsey, Amazon, ITC, ABG, etc. picked up students for various roles such as Associate Director, front-end IB, CoS, etc.. Preparation for summer placements begins as soon as one enters college. Students are made to prepare their CVs rigorously. For the summers, the average and highest placement stood at Rs. 1.54 and Rs. 3.5 lakh per month respectively.
