Remarks :
Admission to Tezpur University is solely based on the JEE Mains exam and students are called for counselling after releasing the merit list. The courses and admission procedures are detailed on the university website and are easy and simple. During my time the counselling was done in person and we had to go to the university for it but after COVID, situations have changed and counselling is done online now. The reservation benefits can also be availed in the admission process per government norms.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The Course curriculum is rather a tedious one and in my opinion, is hectic in a way for the students. During the initial two and a half years of my B. Tech we had to attend classes from morning till evening and it was draining for the students built on the 6th, 7th, and 8th semesters the pressure is relieved a bit. The University provides a good infrastructure for the labs and the classrooms and is very clean. The faculty is also well-educated and well-trained in their respective topics. They are also very open and approachable for the maximum of the time. The student ratio varies in all departments. I would say the male-to-female ratio would be 60:40. The university holds 4 exams: first test, mid-term, second test, and end them. The exam difficulty level was moderate, but the marking criteria depended totally on the professor. Even though maximum teachers were unbiased, there may have been some partiality.
Placement Experience :
The placements at Tezpur University are rather a nightmare. It offers very less opportunities in terms of placements. Big companies do not visit the campus. Mostly TCS visits the university and recruits the freshers. From our batch the highest package received was 6LPA and only 3-4 people were placed with below-average packages. The % of students getting placed is very low even for a central university. Maximum students need to opt for higher studies or go for off-campus placement due to lack of placement.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fee structure is relatively low compared to IITs and NITs. Each semester costs 19000-26000 depending on whether we opt for a hostel or not. There are also some things in the fee structure that are added even if it has no use namely bus fees. For the people of Assam, there is the "ISHAN UDAY" scholarship which is for the weaker sections. It can be applied directly by the student and after verification can be availed for the whole duration of the course. The job scenario, I would say is scary here with the average package running from 3LPA to 4LPA. This is a very low salary even for a fresher. Most of the students go unplaced and very few accept the offers.
Campus Life :
The annual fest of the Engineering department used to be "TECHXETRA" but it was canceled somewhere in 2016-2017 and hasn't happened since then. The university has an ample amount of extracurricular activities and also big fields to provide for such. It also has a number of clubs namely the astronomy club, debate club, sports club, etc. Any student is allowed to join the clubs and have a wide experience of the environment there.
