I chose King's College London for various reasons - its global and national ranking for Medicine at the time of application, reputation of the school, quality of education as well as benefit on studying in a city like London
Course Curriculum :
The course curriculum and academics at KCL are very valuable and provides a good foundation to practice as a doctor in the future. There is plenty of theoretical knowledge and clinical practice opportunities to back it up. We are given placements in hospitals to gain experience in the different departments including mental health, general medicine and various specialities. Through lectures, tutorials and hospital teaching sessions, the essentials of medicine and skills needed to be a capable doctor are taught.
Exams :
IELTS - minimum 7 (my score 7.5), UKCAT - no minimum score per say but for international students, it was generally expected to score above 700 (my score 760)
Placement :
As a medical student, we are pretty much guaranteed a foundation doctor job in the NHS in the UK
Events :
Campus life is extremely eventful - there are numerous study spaces, many societies to get involved in and cafes and restaurants nearby. The campus is in the heart of London so you can easily explore many parts of the city. There is wifi throughout and lecture theatre accommodating all students. there are also clinical skills labs and research facilities
Scholarship :
As an international student, I was not eligible for any scholarships for medicine
Faculty :
The faculty at KCL is highly reputable and experienced in their fields. They are all experts in their fields and have been involved in medical education for several years. Our Dean of Medical Education is one member of faculty that particularly stands out: Professor Tim Lancaster
Campus Life :
My overall experience at KCL has been amazing. I have learned numerous skills, created lifelong friendships and had several memorable experiences. I believe that my education at KCL is adequately training me to become a great doctor in the future.
Hostel :
I currently live in a rental apartment with a friend from college. We are only given accommodation halls in the first year and after that you find your own apartment. It is a 10 min walk from the campus and I currently pay doubt 700 pounds a month in rent.
