NITTE University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

Ph.D. in Medical Sciences:

Candidates with MD, DNB, MS, DM, M.Ch, Diploma, M.Sc. in Medical Anatomy / M.Sc. in Medical Physiology / M.Sc. in Medical Biochemistry / M.Sc. in Medical Microbiology / M.Sc. in Medical Pharmacology from a recognized University which is approved by MCI or a Medical PG degree equivalent to Nitte University with a minimum of 55% marks in the qualifying examination are eligible for getting admission in the faculty of medical sciences.

Relaxation of 5% marks is given in the minimum eligibility criteria to the SC/ST candidates.

Ph.D. in Dental Sciences:

Candidates with an MDS degree from a recognized College/University, approved by DCI, or a PG Dental degree recognized as equivalent by Nitte with a minimum of 55% marks in the qualifying examination are eligible for the Ph.D. program in the Faculty of Dental Sciences.

Relaxation of 5% marks is given to the students of SC and ST categories.

Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences:

  • Candidates with M.Pharm degree or Pharm.D. degree with a duration of 6 years scoring a minimum of 55%marks from a recognized College / University or a PG degree as equivalent as NITTE (Deemed to be University) are eligible for enrolment in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • Relaxation of 5% marks is given to the SC and ST candidates.

Ph.D. in Nursing:

  • Candidates with an M.Sc.. degree in nursing with a minimum of 60% marks awarded by a recognized University which is approved by INC or a PG degree in Nursing which is equivalent to NITTE are eligible in the faculty of nursing.
  • The candidate must have a minimum experience of 3 years in the research/teaching field.
  • Relaxation of 10% marks is provided to the SC and ST candidates.

Ph.D. in Physiotherapy:

  • Candidates with a Masters Degree in Physiotherapy from a recognized University or an equivalent PG degree in allied health sciences from Nitte with a minimum of 55% marks in the qualifying examination are eligible for this course.
  • The candidate must have a minimum experience of 3 years in the field of teaching or research.
  • Relaxation of 5% marks is provided to the SC and ST students.

Ph.D. in Allied Health Sciences:

  • Candidates with Masters Degree in Speech and Hearing / Medical Laboratory Technology / Medical Imaging Technology / Operation Theatre Technology / Social Work from a recognized College/University or an equivalent PG degree in allied health sciences recognized by Nitte (Deemed to be University) with a minimum of 55% marks in the qualifying examination are eligible for registration for Ph.D program in under the Faculty of Allied Health Science of this University.
  • 5% relaxation of marks is given to the SC and ST candidates.

Ph.D. in Biological Sciences:

  • Candidates with Masters Degree in Biomedical / Bioscience / Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Microbiology / Plant Science / Animal Science / Veterinary Science / Medical / Dental / Pharmacy / any related life sciences programs with a minimum of 55% marks obtained from a recognized university or which is equivalent to a masters degree of NITTE university are eligible to get admission in this.
  • 5% relaxation of marks is given to the students of SC and ST category.

Ph.D. in Humanities:

Media studies: Candidates with a Masters Degree in Mass Communication & Journalism with a minimum of 55% (50% for SC/ST candidates) marks from a recognized University which is equivalent to Nit University are eligible for the Ph.D. program under the Faculty of Humanities of this University.

Business Administration: Candidates with M.Com. / MBA / MA(Economics) with a minimum of 55% [50% for SC/ST candidates] marks from a recognized University which is equivalent to Nitte University are eligible for the Ph.D. program under the faculty of Humanities of this University.

Key Points:

  • The candidate who has passed the UGC-NET / SLET / CSIR / GATE / ICMR or any other national level Fellowship examination with the above-mentioned qualifications are eligible for Ph.D. programs.
  • Teachers who are in regular services and are working in any of the institutions of NITTE University are eligible for part-time Ph.D. Courses with the necessary qualifications.
  • Candidates working with full time teaching positions in any of the UGC based institutions or in non-academic positions in any of the public/private sector are also eligible for the part-time course with necessary qualifications by submitting a letter from the organization in which they are working.

NITTE University Ph.D. Entrance Examination

Applicants for the Ph.D. course in the respective fields are selected based on the entrance examination conducted by the university and an interview. The examination contains 60% of the weight age for the final ranking.

The entrance examination will be of written mode consisting of 80 multiple-choice questions. Out of the 80 MCQs, 60 MCQs will be from one of the 8 fields chosen by the applicant and the remaining 20 questions will be from general research aptitude and analytical thinking.

Candidates having fellowships from ICMR / DBT / DST / CSIR /UGC-NET / GATE are exempted from the written examination.

Selection Process:

The selection of the program will be based on the 3 components namely entrance examination, interview and statement of purpose. The marking system is as listed below:

Based on the above marking style, three separate selection lists are prepared by the Board of Research Studies (BORS) viz. one for full-time candidates, second for in-house part-time candidates who have applied under the faculty development program, and a third list of the part-time Ph.D. candidates.

  • As the candidates having a fellowship from ICMR / DBT / DST / CSIR /UGC-NET / GATE are exempted from the written examination, the selection for those candidates will be done based on only 2 components namely Interview and Statement of purpose.
  • Selected candidates are notified through email or contact number for further process.
  • The result of the entrance examination is valid for 2 years so the candidate if needed can apply with the same score in the next year.

The application process for the Ph.D. course is conducted twice a year through advertisements in newspapers and through notifications on the website for the two categories namely full-time courses and part-time.

  • The candidate has to visit the official website for an application.
  • The candidate has to fill up the application form available there and has to select the faculty under which the candidate is seeking admission.
