Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Kerala is inviting applications for admission to its PhD Program through PhD Entrance Examination 2023 (Written Aptitude Test ) for the academic session 2023-24. Interested candidates can apply by submitting their applications till April 10, 2023.

After the application process, the university will conduct an entrance test to shortlist candidates for admissions seats on May 06 and May 07, 2023. The admit card for the same will be published for applicants to download at least a week before the exam date.

Candidates must note that offline applications will not be accepted for the entrance exam. Candidates have to visit the Research Portal of the official website of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam at researchonline.mgu.ac.in to apply for the admission process. 

Mahatma Gandhi University, popularly known as MG University, is a UGC approved university which has grown to be amongst the top universities in India. It offers 300 academic programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate level all over India.

MGU provides Ph.D. in various disciplines and can be done in three ways:

  • Full time
  • Part time (internal/external)

Admissions of candidates in these programmes will be done on the basis of qualifying examination merit as well as their performance in written aptitude test (WAT) and interview. Check MGU Admission

Students who satisfy the eligibility criteria and wish to apply for the Ph.D. programme can register themselves by submitting duly filled-in applications along with the registration fee through the official website.

Mahatma Gandhi University PhD Eligibility Criteria

For admissions to the Ph.D. programmes, one should qualify the following eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates should possess a Post graduate degree in any discipline from MG University or any other university which is considered as equivalent by MGU, with a minimum of 55% aggregate. For SC/ST candidates, one should have a minimum of 50% in PG degree
  • Candidates awaiting the results of PG degree can also apply for the programme
  • Candidates with MBBS/ BAHMS/ BHMS /BDS degree should have a minimum of 50% aggregate.
  • CA and ACS candidates can also apply, provided their name has been entered in the Register as members maintained by the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India.

Mahatma Gandhi University PhD Selection Process

For admission to the Ph.D. programmes, candidates must appear for the WAT exam, conducted by the university itself. Once selected, they can register by filling the application form prior to the last dae and appear for the interview round. Final selection will be done by the university committee on the basis of candidate’s performance in WAT and interview.

The following group of people will be exempted from giving WAT:

  • JRF Awardees
  • UGC Teacher fellows
  • Candidates having degrees of M.Phil & M.Tech ( in all disciplines) and MD&MS ( in modern medicine, homeopathy and Ayurveda)
  • Candidates who serve as Regular & Permanent teachers in University Departments and Government /Aided colleges in the state.
  • DST Women Scientist Awardees
  • KSCST/INSPIRE/MANF/RGNF/ or fellowship awardees.
  • Candidates who serve as Scientists of Accredited R&D Institutions.

Candidates who are exempted from WAT will be selected on the basis of following:

  • Qualifying degree
  • Interview
  • Letter of consent showing vacancy position of the Supervising teacher.
  • Letter of Agreement of the Head of the Research Centre.

Mahatma Gandhi University PhD Entrance Test 2023: How to Apply?

To apply for admission, candidates can register for PhD Entrance Examination 2023 (Written Aptitude Test ) on the official website at researchonline.mgu.ac.in. No offline applications will not be accepted for the entrance test.

The test is held for determining eligibility for admission to Full-time/Part-time research leading to a PhD Degree. Candidates have to pay INR 1,105/- as an application fee. For SC/ST candidates, the fee for the application is INR 550/-. The fee shall be submitted through Online Mode only.

Mahatma Gandhi University Admission 2023: Documents Required

Candidates should send the applications for MGU PhD Admission 2023 to the university along with the following documents :

  • Attested copy PG degree mark sheet and certificate
  • Attested copy of T.C from the institution where the candidates last studied.
  • Attested copy of the M.Phil. degree certificate (if applicable)
  • Attested copy of the following certificates – JRF/NET/SLET / GATE/GPAT/KSCSTINPIRE/MANF/RGNF etc.
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer (if applicable)
  • Agreement letter from the Heard of the Research Centre
  • Letter of consent showing vacancy position of the supervising teacher
  • Caste certificates of SC/ST (if applicable)
  • Eligibility certificate of M.Phil/PG degree holders if done from any other university.
  • Scorecard copy of WAT (if appeared)
  • A total of three copies of the Research proposal in the following format from the Research Centre :
    • On the front page these details should be there with a heading of Research Proposal -Title of Research work, Research area, discipline, Name and address of the candidate, supervising teacher and research centre.
    • Then, candidates should be give introduction including the related studies.
    • Candidates should provide, Importance of the work.
    • Objectives of the study
    • Methods and design of work (methodology)
    • Work schedule (year wise)
    • Bibliography
    • Research proposal should be signed by the Research Guide at the first and the last page respectively. Also total number of pages should not exceed 5.
