IIM Shillong Scholarships

Need Based Financial Assistance Scheme 

  • IIM Shillong provides a Need Based Financial Assistance Scheme to help economically weak students. 
  • Such scholarships are introduced for students with an excellent academic record but with limited or zero finance. 
  • The scholarships are limited in number and dynamic depending upon the number of students with low family income. 
  • The quantum of assistance offered to students is decided on the basis of annual gross family income, credit worthiness, student’s assets, and so on.
 

Scholarships offered by the Government of India 

In addition to the Need Based financial aid, there are scholarships for Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / People with Disabilities (PWD) participants by the Government of India.

National Fellowship & Scholarship for Higher Education of Scheduled Tribe Students (Central Sector Scheme)

  • These scholarships are for those who are willing to pursue higher degree courses like MPhil, Ph.D and belong to ST category. Students must have passed the Post-graduation/Master Degree examination in order to be eligible for National Fellowship Programmes.
  • Students eligible for availing such scholarships shall be selected on a merit-basis. Students can apply for the scholarships at the notified time, through https://fellowship.tribal.gov.in
  • Seats Availability:- There are a total of 750 seats for intake of students into National Fellowship Programmes. However, in contrast cases the following is to be done:- 

i) In case the number of applicants exceeds the number of available slots for awards, selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in post-graduation exam.

ii) In cases when enough students from ST Category are not available, the no. of fellowships not availed by students during that year will be carried forward to the next academic year.

There is no income criteria for students eligible under the National Fellowship Programmes.

Merit Cum Means Scholarship For Professional and Technical Courses CS

  • The scholarships are solely kept for providing financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students belonging to minority communities. This is to enable them to pursue professional and technical courses.

Eligibility

  • Students with more than 50% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and the annual income of their parents/guardians from all sources does not exceed INR 2.50 lakhs.
  • Minorities section include Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jain and Zoroastrians (Parsis) under Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.
  • Seats Availability:- A total of 60,000 scholarships are targeted to be distributed as “Fresh” Scholarships, besides, Renewal scholarships.
  • Merit Cum Means Scholarship- Quantum of Financial Aid

Central Sector Scheme for Scholarships for College and Universities Students 

  • The aim is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from poor families to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing degree programs. 

Eligibility

  • Students with gross parental / family income up to INR 4.5 lakh per annum are eligible for scholarship under the scheme.
  • Seats Availability:- A total of 82,000 seats are available as fresh scholarships every year for pursuing graduate / postgraduate degree in colleges and universities and for professional courses.
  • Eligible students can apply through NSP Portal i.e. https://scholarships.gov.in when the scholarships are being activated.
