Raiganj University offers Ph.D programs at research levels across Arts, Commerce, Management, Law and Science streams in a total of 21 specializations. The courses are offered as full time, regular courses. Application forms are released online every year on the official website. 

  • Ph.D is offered for a minimum duration of 3 years.
  • The basic eligibility is a master's degree in relevant discipline.
  • Selection is based on the candidate's merit in the entrance exam.

Raiganj University Ph.D Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for Ph.D program of Raiganj University must satisfy the below mentioned eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates with an M.Phil degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks or an equivalent grade from Raiganj University are eligible to apply. 
  • Candidates whose M.Phil dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending under any Department/ Centre or Research Programme of the university, may be provisionally admitted to the Ph.D programme of the university, provided he/ she must obtain the requisite percentage.
  • Candidates with a degree considered equivalent to the M.Phil shall also be considered eligible.
  • A relaxation of 5% is provided to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently abled and other categories of candidates.
  • Candidates from abroad are also eligible to apply, however, they must meet the academic requirements as prescribed by the Indian government.

Raiganj University Ph.D Admission Guidelines

Raiganj University conducts its own entrance test for admissions in their PhD programme. Candidates are admitted on the basis of their performance in the Written Entrance Test followed by interview/ viva-voce. 

  • Candidates who have qualified UGC- NET (including JRF)/ UGC – CSIR NET (including JRF)/ SLET/ SET/ GATE, or who are teachers/ fellowship holders/ M.Phil Degree holders with at least 55% in aggregate from another university are exempted from the entrance test. 
  • Such candidates would have to appear for viva-voce before final admissions.
  • The Written Entrance Test shall be conducted for 100 marks. 50% of the exam will be subject specific and the rest 50% shall be based on the research methodology.
  • Candidates must secure at least 50% marks in the written part of the Entrance Test in order to be eligible for interview/ viva-voce.
  • Final selection will be based on the candidate’s performance in the entrance test and viva-voce.
  • In case of candidates who are already employed, a non objection Certificate (NOC) must be submitted from the employer at the time of application.

  1. Visit the official website of the university.
  2. Click on the Admissions link available on the homepage.
  3. On the next window, click on ‘Ph.D Online Application 2021-22’ available under the notice section.
  4. Register yourself first.
  5. Fill in all the necessary details and click on Sign Up. After submission, Raiganj University will send the confirmation on the registered mobile number and email id.
  6. Sign in using user ID and password.
  7. Fill in the personal and education qualification details. Upload the necessary documents as prescribed in the application form.
  8. Submit the application form fees through online payment modes such as Debit Card, Credit Card, and Net Banking.
  9. Verify the details and click on Submit to complete your admission process.

Duration: Ph.D programme is offered for a minimum duration of three years, including the course work and for a maximum period of six years from admission. In case, a candidate fails to submit the thesis within the time frame of six years, one year can be extended by the recommendation of the PhD committee by paying an amount of INR 2000.

Evaluation: Evaluation process is as follows:

  • The course follows the GPA system to evaluate the student’s performance. Candidates must maintain a minimum 55% of marks or its equivalent grade in the course work in order to be eligible to continue in the programme and submit the dissertation/thesis.
  • After the completion of the course, examinations will be conducted to evaluate the course work.
  • The scholars must complete a semester system course work of total 16 credits, consisting of 4 courses of 4 credits each.

Grading System: CGPA system will be followed for evaluation of performance of any student as follows:

Ques. What are the application fees for Ph.D admission form of Raiganj University?

Ans. The application fee for Ph.D candidates from general category is INR 1000. For the reserved category, the fee is INR 700. The application fees can be submitted via online mode. Candidates can use credit card/ debit card/ net banking or any other method of online payment according to their convenience.

Ques. How will the Raiganj university support its scholars during my Ph.D research?

Ans. The University has formed a separate Research advisory Committee to help scholars in various areas such as – to review the research proposal and finalize the topic of research and to guide the research scholar to develop the study design and methodology of research and identify the courses that they may have to opt for.

Ques. Can I submit my Ph.D thesis of Raiganj University in any other language than English? What is the interview pattern?

Ans. No, the medium of submission of the thesis accepted by Raiganj University has to be English. This however does not apply on the subjects opted by candidates other than English. In the interview/ viva-voce, the candidates are required to discuss their research interest/ area through a presentation and submission in writing about his/ her research interest before the departmental Ph.D committee.
