Ques. Why is Massachusetts Institute of Technology better than IIT Bombay?

● Top Answer By Advait Joshi on 17 Mar 23

Ans. Massachusetts Institute of Technology is not better than IIT Bombay but unique. I will tell you why it is considered unique when compared to IIT Bombay. A few years ago there was a girl Malvika Raj Joshi, who was home-tutored by her mother and thus was rejected by IIT Bombay under the pretext that her schooling wasn’t sufficient for admission. The same girl was accepted into Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While other elite IITs rejected her because of a lack of proper school education, only Massachusetts recognized her amazing talents and decided to hone them. She was granted admission to MIT based on her outstanding achievements at the International Olympiad of Informatics. MITs flexibility deserves applause for accepting such a student that has unique potential despite having no formal school education. Malvika is a three-time medal winner (two silver and a bronze) at the International Olympiad of Informatics (IOI). MIT has accepted students who are medal winners at various Olympiads (Maths, Physics, or Computer) To date, MIT has birthed 34 Nobel Laureates and IIT teaches some of their theories.  So in all these aspects, MIT is considered superior to even IIT Bombay as it gives chances to unique profile students.Read more

Ques. Is IIT, Kharagpur the same as MIT or Harvard?

● Top Answer By Aditi Roy on 22 Mar 23

Ans. Honestly speaking, none of the IITs are at the level of foreign universities today. IIT is an excellent choice only if your prospects involve settling in India. Globally, IITs lack the necessary worth when compared to top US, UK, French, and Swiss universities. In case you want to settle abroad then the kind of universities that will help you do so are MIT, Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, and the Sorbonne only. Sadly, IIT is still not credible enough to help you settle abroad. There are other reasons as well why IITs are considered inferior to top foreign universities like Oxford. At Oxford, you will find such a diverse peer group of geniuses that the learning experience will become excellent. There are many who study unique subjects like History, Latin, Greek, Modern Languages, English, Engineering, etc. When you end up befriending such geniuses, it adds to the overall experience. You basically get to spend a lot of time with intelligent people with unique interests and this helps you develop holistically. This diversity is definitely lacking on the part of IITs and they have a long way to go.Read more

work study options in massachusetts institute of technology

Most of the students enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology work while studying, irrespective of their financial needs. On-campus employment at MIT is usually found in labs, department centers, communities as well as offices. Students enrolled in any of the MIT programs can apply and get the on-campus jobs. It is highly encouraged that a student finds a job role that aligns with their interests and future aspiratons.

The university has its own job board, which is offered free of charge to students taking admission at MIT USA. Student finance services, which look after the job board do not run a verification or screening on the employers or students. It is, hence, suggested that both empliyers as well as work-study aspirants to request reference information from each other.

International students are not eligible for the federal work-study programs, resulting in a lack of opportunities for off-campus work study jobs.

On-campus Work-Study at MIT

  • International students at MIT can work for 20 hours per week during the term and 40 hours per week during vaccation.
  • Minimum wages paid is $12.75/hour which equal $1700 per semester.

Type of Work-Study opportunities at MIT

  • Research Jobs: Find these through Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP). You can be either paid or given academic credit for the research work you contribute to the program.
  • Research and Teaching Assistantship: Available for graduate students where research assistants are a part of the group involved in a research project and teaching assitants offer help to a graduate faculty member.
  • Public Service Jobs: Priscilla King Gray Public Center offers a variety of job opportunities to MIT students for public services projects in national, local, and global communities.
  • Community Service Work-Study Program: Working with non-profit public or community-based agency can earn MIT students (both UG and PG) to be paid as per federal regulation.

Every student working while studying is required to fill out the federal form before or on the first day of their work. I-20 form, section 1 must be completed via human resources.

It can be concluded that international students at MIT can apply for the on-campus work study program, RAs, and TAs and are allowed to work for 20-40 hours a week depending on whether the term is ongoing or MIT has vaccations.
