The Master of Engineering (MEng) degree program is professional-oriented graduate program that consists of high level, fast paced coursework and significant engagement with a real world engineering projects, preparing graduates for a professional career path, or further graduate studies at MIT or elsewhere.
Graduates of the MEng Program go on to careers in as leaders in engineering firms, consultants and some pursue further graduate education.
Four graduate subjects offered by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, totaling at least 48 units
- Within the Structural Mechanics and Design track, two of the four CEE subjects must include 1.562 Structural Design Project I (Fall) and 1.563 Structural Design Project II (Spring)
Two elective subjects, possibly offered by other MIT departments, totaling at least 18 units
MEng Thesis, equivalent to 24 units

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

The students must have a bachelor’s degree(3 or 4 years) in any of the respective fields to apply for this program.
The average GPA of the students in this program is 3.9.
Students can apply with any bachelor’s degree but majority of the students come from these fields like Computer Science, Economics, Engineering (variety), Finance, Management, Math, Operations Research, Statistics…, etc.

Work Experience:

Work experience is not required but many of the students have an average experience of 15 months.

Language Requirments:

The students whose official language is not English are required to write IELTS or TOEFL exams before applying.
The TOEFL cut-off for this program is 90 out of 120.
The IELTS cut-off will be decided by the university department.

Language Requirement Exemption:

Students who have received instruction in English in their primary and secondary schools and students who have been in the United States for four years or longer and have received a degree from an American institution.

Exam Requirments:

The students must compulsorily have to submit the scores of any one of the exams like GMAT or GRE.
MIT recommends that applicants interview with a member of the MIT Educational Council if available. Council members are MIT graduates who have volunteered to interview on behalf of the Office of Admissions.

Application Fees: A $75 application fee. Applications to the MIT Sloan School of Management may have application fees between $75 and $250.
Three Letter of Reference: Referees (Teachers, guidance counselors, or Professors) should comment on academics and that references should submit along with the application system.A statement of objectives.
Test Scores:Official TOEFL or IELTS English proficiency exam test scores and Official GRE test scores
Statement of Objectives: Statement should be 1 to 1.5 pages long. The statement will serve the following three purposes:
- It will help the admissions officer direct your application to the most appropriate readers and/or potential research supervisors.
- The statement will be used to evaluate your writing skills.
- It will help the faculty reviewing your application to understand the depth of your technical experience.
