I wanted to study International Relations or Conflict Studies and this university provided me with both degrees. Hence, I chose Peace & Conflict Studies. Moreover, UQ ranks in the top 50 universities in the world, and the course fees were quite affordable.

Course Curriculum :

UQ focuses on intensive research and hence my entire course curriculum is based on applying your own research skills. The assessments are in the form of research essays and proposals. Moreover, there are varied networking events being organized from time to time through which we get industry insights.

Exams :

My scores: IELTS 8.0; Minimum IELTS score required: 6.5; 1-2 years of prior work experience preferred but not essential; 60% and above in undergrad degree.

Placement :

The placement process for my degree is not structured. Networking with industry experts through various events taking place throughout the year is the preferred choice. However, faculty recommendations matter a lot as the faculty members are highly esteemed and respected in Australian markets. Nonetheless, institutions invested in conflict resolution and peace studies visit regularly to conduct workshops.

Internship :

The internship is a part of my course and I'll be doing it in my last semester. Internships are encouraged by the university and one has to be on their feet to grab any relevant internship opportunity. Internships are unpaid and they are counted in credits. The institutions are varied and are recommended to us by our faculty on the basis of our area of interest.

Events :

There are more than 200 clubs & societies at UQ and extracurricular activities are encouraged. I personally have been involved in the Student Staff team working as a facilitator for fellow students. There are ample volunteering opportunities for which you can get an employability boosting certificate. Libraries, WiFi and all other facilities are top-class.

Fees :

There are different fee structures for different courses. My course fee is $62,000 which is INR 30 lakhs for 2 years. However, for courses like Engineering, Business, or Architecture, the fees could be more.

Scholarship :

No. I got late in applying for the degree and hence the deadline for applying for a scholarship had already passed. However, UQ provides generous scholarships. My tip - apply for them pretty early.

Faculty :

Some courses are pretty famous and hence you'll find many students taking them. However, most of the courses have on average 20-30 students. The faculty is well-renowned and has immense publications to their name. Prof. Sebastian Kaempf took my first-ever class and made me extremely comfortable with his teaching methods.

Hostel :

There are plenty of student residences on campus; however, they are expensive. But, there are other private student accommodation providers around the campus which are quite affordable.
