There were many reasons. A few of them are #1 - It's one of the world's top-ranked universities (ranked - 32 in the world) #2 - The course structure #3 - My area of interest that matches with the supervisor I selected #4 - Campus culture (got to know through my seniors & friends)
Course Curriculum :
Mine is a thesis program which means I'll be doing research work on a particular area of interest. I'll have one course every term until the first year which is related to my program and it's taught by different professors based on the topic of that class. And the remaining everything is just the research work!
Exams :
My score: GRE - 302 (Not required for admission into Parasitology) IELTS - 7.0 (minimum requirement of band 6.5) Minimum requirement of 3.2 CGPA out of 4.0 in an undergraduate degree related to biological sciences or medicine.
Placement :
I'm still studying. Most of the thesis students tend to continue and do their Ph.D. than go for industrial jobs. If students are interested to go into industrial jobs, they may get paid around 50,000 CAD/year for the research positions.
Internship :
I don't have co-op/internship for my program.
Events :
It's a dream campus for everyone surrounded by greenery and with all the facilities. There were many student clubs and it's completely students' interest to participate and be a part of different clubs and associations. Not just the student clubs but different initiatives/services offered in the university helps the students to grow personally and academically.
Fees :
It's around 35,000 CAD for two years
Scholarship :
Yes, I have received the Graduate excellence fellowship which is 15,000 CAD/year. For this scholarship our supervisor will submit a nomination on our behalf of us and based on our profile, the committee will decide.
Faculty :
In our department, there were around 20 professors. Every year around 10-15 people get admission based on the projects of the faculty. So again as it's a thesis program it's just directly working with a professor in the lab. I'm working under the supervision of Dr.Elias Georges.
Hostel :
I live off campus which is 10 mins walk away from the campus. I live in a basement of a house with an attached washroom to my room and I'll be sharing the Kitchen with three others on the first floor.
