I got offered funding which significantly reduced the financial burden. I got acceptance by American universities also but I preferred Canada.

Scholarship:

Yes, but it's not exactly a scholarship. It's funding and I have to work as a graduate researcher and teaching assistant. It was around CAD 25,000 for the first year.

I wanted to get into this university because of the course structure and the city. Calgary is one of the best places in Canada to live. The fees are also low than other universities.

Scholarship:

Full scholarship as it's a thesis-based course. I got back all my fees (around 20k for two years) and some extra that is sufficient for living.

I chose the University of Calgary because it offered a lot of perks. It has always been a dream of mine to go into medical school in Canada, and a strong undergrad program is an essential requirement. UofC Neuroscience is top-notch, and is a small cohort of highly motivated, intelligent individuals, as only 30 are accepted each year. It is ultra competitive, but worth it as I wanted to be with other like-minded people who were striving for the same goals as me. Additionally, this program has guaranteed research funding, and getting a research position is really simple ( a perk not offered in other science programs), so this definitely stuck out to me. Additionally, having an opportunity to do a Honours thesis on a field of neuroscience in my 4th yr sounded really cool to me.

Scholarship:

At UofC, I got the presidential scholarship worth $5000 CAD (for all students with an admission average of 95%+). Additionally, I got a scholarship worth $3500 called the Jean Owen Scholarship, which is given to people who have great extracurriculars (about 5 given per year). To apply for this scholarship, I submitted the general UofC awards application form detailing my sports/athletic awards, volunteering, leadership skills, and other extracurriculars I was in.

I chose this school as it was close to my home and very convenient as I got to live at home with my family. Admissions are relatively easy as you submit all the information that they prompt you to submit, and wait until you hear back from them about acceptance. The application fee was fairly standard with other schools, at I believe around $75.

Scholarship:

I applied for scholarships and government financial aid. For scholarships, all you do is submit the application through the school portal and it checks eligibility for pretty much every scholarship there is. Government student loans were done through a government website, which was very easy to use as long as you have basic technology skills.

Dear I have applied for PhD Psychology program at University of Calgary. Master's CGPA was 3.52/4 in 2020, two interantional publications, IELTS overal 7.0 with no module less than 6.5 Do I stand a chance for admission? Which other universities shall I look at with this profile for a graduate program in psychology?

Sinbad Chongtham

The IELTS requirement for the said program is an overall band of 7.5. Along with that you must also submit a one-page research proposal and two letters of recommendation. As you have an IELTS score of just 7.0, you have not meet the minimum requirement.
