International students may apply for admission at University of Guelph on a rolling basis keeping in mind that seats at the university are now limited for all degrees and majors and you may be granted an alternative if your first choice is no longer available.

Students are advised to apply before the deadlines in order to secure their seat in the preferred course. Spaces are limited for all degrees and majors and students who apply late may be granted an alternative if their first choice is no longer available. Some of the important application deadlines are:

Visa Process for International Students

Students can start their visa application process immediately upon receipt of the original copy of the acceptance letter that would have been mailed to the international or study abroad office at the home university of the student. Acceptance letters from University will be scanned and emailed by mid-May for students who have applied for a fall semester or full-year exchange, and by mid-November for students who have applied for a winter semester exchange. The University of Guelph accepts international applications of students in various undergraduate and graduate programs and courses. The applications are accepted for fall, spring, summer, and winter semesters depending upon the course requirements. For some courses (especially graduate) application deadlines vary by program. All international applicants are required to apply a minimum of 9-12 months in advance of their start date.

FAQs

Ques. What is the application procedure for residence?

Ans. Almost all of the new semester-one students are accepted to residence if they apply by the deadline. Secondary school students applying for semester one (Fall Entry), will be sent along with their offer of admission, instructions on how to complete an application for residence. The application process is completed online. The application must be completed by the published deadline, to guarantee a space in one of the residence living environments. Students are also required to submit a residence deposit by the same deadline to remain eligible for the housing guarantee.

Ques. How to find out if the application has been accepted?

Ans. If the university has received the student's mid-term grade data and estimated final results by March 1, they will receive an admission decision prior to May. For applications completed after March 1, offers of admission will be made on an ongoing basis.

Ques. Is it necessary to purchase travel insurance?

Ans. Students are required to purchase comprehensive travel health insurance through Guard Me Insurance portal if they are traveling as part of an official study abroad program. They are also recommended to buy this insurance if they are traveling for other activities.

Ques. What financial services are available to students?

Ans. In addition to scholarships and bursaries, the University also provides assistance through the Work-Study Program and Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program. The University also provides employment opportunities for nearly 3,000 of its students. Student Financial Services offers a comprehensive program of services designed to assist students with the financial considerations associated with post-secondary education.

Ques. Are admission accepted for semesters other than the fall?

Ans. Admission to Semester One of a degree program is available in the Fall semester only. External transfer applicants who are coming from other institutions are eligible to apply to some programs for Winter and Spring entry. Consideration of available programs is subject to space availability. Only those students who have completed post-secondary studies (college/university) as of the Document Deadline are considered by the university.

University of Guelph: An Underrated Gem for the Med School Hopeful

I received a full ride to the school (scholarships based on grades), I liked the upper year course selection (ex. Cardiology course), the campus and city were close to home and familiar to me, and I liked the amount of research at the school. I applied to five schools with similar degrees (all biology) and had a 96% average in grade twelve.

Go to Guelph - Recommendable University!

I opted for this particular university because it had the program I wanted and throughout the tour I just felt like it was a place where I should go the school. Everything I was exposed to before I applied met my needs both through education and as a living means. It's easy to go out and do things but there are so many resources available to do really well in school.

Scholarship:

It's fairly simple, you need your parent's financial papers to see how much they make in a year, as well as some of your own banking information, and your profile is filtered through a system and any scholarship you're eligible for is applied the following semester.

A Home away from Home - University of Guelph

University of Guelph's ambassadors regularly visited our high school to offer more information and answer any questions we may have about any faculty. They provided several brochures which gave us plenty of insight into the campus life as well. I also attended an event known as "Ontario Universities' Fair" in Toronto where we were able to have conversations with a lot of current students at different universities before selecting which ones we wanted to apply to. I applied to about 4 universities and my top two I had trouble choosing between Guelph and Waterloo. I selected Guelph because it was a smaller school, I would be closer to home, and because I heard positive things about their science programs from upper-year students.

Scholarship:

I applied and received an entrance scholarship. I applied before starting university. In terms of financial aid, I receive OSAP (grants as well as loans). These applications have to be periodically renewed but the process generally takes place online.

The campus was beautiful and easy to get around. Everyone on campus seemed so nice and welcoming. It also had professors who were well known in the industry I was looking to pursue. Giving me the opportunity to have them as references on my resume.

Guelph Humber, better than most

Location, program, and prices where all that I needed. I wanted to get away from my family and be on my own to discover myself. Plus there are lots of employment options nearby with constant transit.
